Have you ever noticed how many things you see that just pass through your life without registering with your conscious mind? Why is that?
Have you ever thought about that? For instance, let's say you are driving somewhere, and you get there and it was what we will call "pretty uneventful." Why do we call it that? Did nothing happened? I mean, you got into a big metal box with a mechanism that creates thousands of controlled explosions per minute, then you got on the road and drove within a few feet of complete strangers driving in the opposite direction as you on the road. They all stopped at red lights and went at green lights, and so did you. Then you maneuvered this several ton piece of machinery into an area that it barely fits into and left it alone to go into a building. Uneventful? Really? The idea that we do this several times each day without it even registering is baffling! Or is it...?
So if that is uneventful, then what makes an event? That is the question, isn't it? What happens if someone runs a red light? Or runs a stop sign? Or cuts you off in traffic? Suddenly, by adding something that snaps our consciousness into action, we have an event, right?
So, now the question is, why does this engage our consciousness when other things that are just as, if not more, important do not? And, if you're willing to consider it, where else in your life is this happening?
The answer to the first question is choice. You see, when that person runs the light or cuts you off, you don't have to decide in that moment how you react, do you? You react and it registers as an event. But what if it had never happened before?
Imagine the first time you fell over on your bike, or maybe a tricycle or something. The very first time. You fall, and then you get up and you don't really know what happened, and then you see your mom's face... oh man, that's not a good face... and she starts crying... and you start crying!!! And now every time after that you react the same way because NOW YOU KNOW HOW.... you've decided, and you never have to decide again. It works, so why change it...?
So, now consider the areas in your life that you (consciously) aren't getting what you want? Why is that? What parts of your life slip by unnoticed and what parts stand out? And the big question is, what was the decision you made to differentiate between the two?
At Meridian NLP we teach techniques to identify and change these choices, choices that we often make unconsciously - without even knowing it. AND - and this is the really cool part - we teach you techniques to literally CHANGE YOUR MIND. I guess the only choice you have to make is whether you're ready right now, or if you want to wait a few minutes to get started. Either way, the power is already in your hands. All you have to do is choose to learn how to use it.
Have a great weekend!
