๐ A Huge Thank You to Our Anonymous Donor! ๐
We arrived at the apiary this week to find an incredible surprise waiting by the shed door โ an oxalic acid vaporizer generously donated by an anonymous member of our community.
This is an expensive and extremely useful tool that will help us treat our colonies for mites safely and effectively. Having one available at the apiary will make a meaningful difference for our club members and, most importantly, for the health of our bees.
To whoever left this gift: thank you! Your kindness and support mean more than you know, and our entire club is truly grateful.
If you come across this post, please know that your generosity will benefit our bees for years to come. ๐๐

BoCC new-bees (new beekeepers) Terry & Crissy spent a recent Saturday morning @ Edenton Farmers Market sharing informatuon about honey bees/beekeeping & selling honey from the Beekeepers of Chowan Countyโs Teaching Apiary on Brayhall Road in Edenton.
This was the mother-daughter duos first time volunteering for a community outreach event & they did a great job setting up an educational & eye-catching bee/honey display & representing BoCC!! ๐๐
Our Teaching Apiary is where our experienced beekeepers teach hands-on beekeeping to new beekeepers. This invaluable resource allows new beekeepers to work along side experienced beekeepers & immediately get answers to their questions about what is happening within the clubโs colonies. All aspects of beekeeping, from treating honey bee pests, making splits, troubleshooting any issues (swarming, a queenless colony, etc.), to harvesting honey is all taught hands-on.
For those interested in beekeeping &/or becoming a beekeeper, BoCC offers a Beekeeping 101 AKA Bee School during the off season each year in January/February. To be notified when registration opens &/or for additional information email: [email protected] ๐

On October 6th Tyrrell County Library along with BoCC VP & NCSBA Journeyman Beekeeper Jamie Williams enhanced two area 5th grade classes learning experience by giving them the opportunity to see LIVE honey bees up close & to learn about honey bees from a local beekeeper! Students had already read Akeem Keeps Bees! written by Kamal Bell as part of the NC Reads Program prior to the event. ๐๐

It was a busy beekeepers day today!
๐ ๐ CONGRATULATIONS!! ๐๐
Tom Roll completed his hands-on hive practical to become a NCSBA Certified Beekeeper today! Tom is a second year beekeeper, along with his wife, Lisa. They are very active members of our bee club & this dynamic team generously shares their time & talents to the benefit of BoCC & the community!
Beekeepers checked on our clubโs hives at the Apiary Field Day & completed the 4th quarter NC DOT Adopt-a-Highway litter pick up on Brayhall Road where BoCCโs Teaching Apiary is located. โป๏ธ ๐๏ธ
Beekeepers Terry & Crissy were at Edenton Farmers Market with LIVE honey bees on display this morning & they were selling BoCC 12oz squeeze honey bears with a dripless top for $10. We still have 30-ish bears available, if you would like to support your local beekeepers & bee club. Just send us a message here on FB to coordinate pick-up. ๐ฏ๐ป
Many thanks to all who have purchased BoCCโs local honey this season. Our bees are located on Brayhall Road just outside Edenton & thatโs where the bees make the honey we sell! You canโt get much more local honey than that! Unless you become a beekeeper! And you can ๐ฏ become a beekeeper by attending BoCCโs upcoming Beekeeping 101 class aka โBee Schoolโ in January/February 2026. Stay tuned for all the details soon. ๐
