Superior Central Schools is excited to announce the hiring of Coach Lindsey Slifka as our new Varsity Girls' Basketball Coach.

Lindsey is a Superior Central alumni of 2003. She and her family moved back to the U.P. in 2017 from the Petoskey area. Lindsey is a Michigan EMS-Instructor Coordinator and a Fire Fighter Educator for the Bureau of Fire Services. She works locally as a paramedic and operates a consulting and education business. Lindsey is involved with the Rock River First Responders, Rock River Fire Department, Alger County Fair judge, SC youth basketball, SC JH track, and club basketball.

Superior Central Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Coach Stephanie Lovell as our new Varsity Cross Country Coach.

Coach Lovell brings more than 13 years of coaching experience working with student-athletes from the elementary level through high school and college athletics. At Superior Central, she currently serves as Assistant Track & Field Coach, working with sprinters, relays, jumps, and mid-distance athletes, while also supporting the Superior Central Youth Basketball program. She recently transitioned out of coaching Junior High Girls Basketball after accepting the Cross Country position.

Before joining Superior Central, Coach Lovell coached at Oregon High School in Wisconsin for multiple years in both the basketball and track & field programs. Prior to Oregon, she coached track & field at Marquette Senior High School and Northern Michigan University.

A former multi-sport athlete at Rapid River High School and Northern Michigan University, Coach Lovell competed in both track & field and cross country and continues to stay active through running and endurance events. She was also honored this spring with induction into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame.

Coach Lovell is excited to build a positive, hard-working team culture centered on growth, confidence, and helping student-athletes reach their potential both on and off the trails.

Check out this report from our Accelerated Reader Program! AR is used by our 1st-12th grade students to log their reading through the school year. 16 of our students became Word Millionaires this year, logging over 1,000,000 words during the 25-26 school year.

We encourage our students and families to keep reading this summer! All of the local libraries have summer reading challenges available.

Friendly reminder to have your child clean out their backpack- that old sandwich and gym shoes aren’t going to smell any better in the fall…

If you find any materials that belong to the school (textbooks, chapter books, jerseys etc.) please return them to the office during school hours this week.

We are offering FREE sports physicals at Munising and Superior Central schools on Saturday, July 25th! If you are unable to attend the clinic day, we will be offering free sports physicals the following week at our Bay Care clinic by appointment.

Snow day forgiveness – Last day of school update

Dear Superior Central Community,

As you may know, recent legislation passed by both the Michigan House and Senate regarding snow day forgiveness was signed by Governor Whitmer today, Tuesday, May 26, 2026. This bill will forgive 3 additional snow days in our district (March 13th, March 16th, and March 17th). This will make our new last day of school, FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH. With this adjustment, we will have a 1:30 dismissal on Thursday, June 4th and a 1:30 dismissal on Friday, June 5th; all other days leading up to June 4th will be regular 3:11 dismissals. I appreciate your patience as this process seemed long. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
