The Lancer baseball team claimed the regional championship Wednesday afternoon at Fairfax Park in Eau Claire with a 4-1 victory over the #4 seeded team Gilman.

The Lancers had a chance to go ahead early, but failed to score in the first inning after having the bases loaded and nobody out. Gilman got an unearned run in the top of the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead. The Lancers responded with 3 in the bottom half of that inning. Jake Zimmerman scored Derek Wales from 3rd on a groundout to short. With two outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Kayden Lillo put a full count pitch into play that was fumbled by the shortstop allowing both runs to score for a 3-1 lead. The final Lancer run came in the 5th when Sawyer Sydow led off with a hit, advanced on a wild pitch to 2nd, was bunted to third by Seth Bernthal, and scored on a groundout by Lillo.

Cam Nelson went the distance on the mound throwing only 82 pitches. He gave up no earned runs, allowed only two hits, and struck out 4.

The Lancers now have a break in play until next Tuesday when they take on Loyal at Bruce in the sectional semi-final. According to the WIAA website, that game will take place at 1:00 pm. If the Lancers win that game they would be playing for a trip to State at 4:00 pm that same day.

The quietness of the halls each summer brings so many feelings! Just like the Inside Out Entertainment Night skit showed us, we can feel joy, sadness or anxiety but until reason comes in, we might not know how to deal with it! We are so excited for the 8th graders to now be in high school! We are so-so happy that the kindergarteners are now full day first graders! We are soooo stoked that the 4K kids are now 5 day a week kindergarteners! There are so many wonderful things happening. We pray for an amazing summer for everyone and can't wait to hear all the stories in 12 short weeks! Enjoy the break Friends!
