UWEC students continue to pay UWEC tuition while studying at an NSE host school in the USA, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam or Canada. Last week we celebrated the retirement of Cindy 'Cheech' Bernier Nevin. Cindy loved NSE and was a part of the program for all 25 years she worked at UW-EC. NSE at UW-EC is very special having only had four coordinators over many decades. We wish our newest coordinator the very best as she carries the torch of a program we all loved. 💚

Congratulations to Rachel Bohlen, the 2025 recipient of the UW Eau Claire Domestic Immersion Leadership Award! Rachel made the most of her NSE adventure at the US Virgin Islands-St. Thomas campus. In her words "I've grown more confident in my ability to adapt and face new challenges." Upon return to UWEC, Rachel promoted NSE by sharing her NSE story with all that would listen.

"Through NSE I was able to explore a new place while staying on track with my degree, paying home school tuition, and living right on the ocean. Living on the island of St. Thomas allowed me to take scuba diving, swimming, and snorkeling classes! It pushed me out of my comfort zone, helped me grow more independent, helped me meet amazing new friends, and reminded me how exciting it is to experience a new place. "I went Colorado Springs and had an amazing time exploring the area and experiencing outdoor climbing. I had the opportunity to engage with the climbing community on campus allowing me to work as a volunteer route setter throughout the semester. The experiences I had during my exchange exposed me to so much that I would have never gotten by staying in Wisconsin. I am incredibly happy I went through the effort to get everything set up through NSE."
