Hello students, faculty, and others interested in chemistry (and ice cream š)!
UWEC Chemistry/Biochemistry is tremendously grateful to every student who has contributed to our department this year! In honor of these students, we bring you an ice cream socialā but with a fun chemistry twist!
Catch us in the UWEC Davies Center on May 13 before the annual dept. of chemistry/biochemistry awards banquet!
Our very own team members will be there to show you the wonders of combining safety, liquid nitrogen, and ice cream!
We are very excited to do this demonstration to honor you, and we hope that this is the start of many demonstrations to come!
We look forward to seeing you all there!

Are you stumped on how to separate your wastes in Phillips Hall? No worries! Here is a quick guide for all your hazardous waste!
Remember that glass NEVER goes anywhere other than the glass-specific bins in your labs! This is imperative for the safety of our custodial staff! Any mercury wastes or broken mercury thermometers go in special containers that your instructor can direct you to!
Lastly, scan our QR code to see information about hazard classes from Harvard!
Have a safe and happy Wednesday, Blugolds!

Today, the UWEC CSST visited the UMN Joint Safety Team (JST) to learn about how another institution approaches chemistry-related safety, documentation, standard operating procedures, and so much more!
We want to say a huge thank you to UMN JST for supporting us from the birth of our group and continuing to support our progress!

This is the kind of thing you're missing out on when you don't attend the chemistry industry seminars at UWEC! A big thank you to Eric Johnson and Ben Klug from DuBois Chemicals for their excellent talk today.
Next week we have Erin Eggert visiting us from Brady Corp. As we all know, relevant signage is an important component to lab safety, which is why you should be interested in Erin's talk! Come check her out Friday, March 4th at noon in Phillips 413.

Some may argue that you have not done chemistry until youāve spilled or broken glass at least onceā¦. Now, what we mean by that, is that it happens to everyone! And thatās okay!
UWEC Chemistry Student Safety Team wants you to be prepared for those situations! We also want you to always be cautious and careful in your labs. Our department is only as safe as the students!
Enjoy the rest of your week, blugold chemists šš§Ŗ

Happy Friday!
The student safety team wants you to learn more about this symbol... have you seen it anywhere recently?
This logo can be found on the outside of buildings, on doors, and on various tanks! They are meant to quickly inform emergency personnel of possible hazards. They can also be found often in chemists' everyday lives!
Enjoy your weekend and stay safe, blugolds!

Hello, Blugold Chemists!
We are the UWEC Chemistry Student Safety Team. This is a committee that was established this fall 2021. We approach safety concerns and modern safety techniques for the department of chemistry at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire.
Our team is comprised of members from each major in the Chemistry/Biochemistry department. These members vary in age, ethnicity, background, and academic progress.
Our mission is simple. The Chemistry Student Safety Team strives to cultivate a safety culture in the department of chemistry and biochemistry laboratories of the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire by comprehensively promoting student awareness, ownership, and observance of chemical safety.
We hope you will join us in our efforts to advance our departmental safety awareness and skills. Thanks for stopping by!
