Join us Sunday, September 20th for Guildara Days from 10-2 at Valley Sports Academy! This FREE event is a must-attend for families in the CV who are looking for events for themselves and their kiddos! We can't wait!

There are always going to be times where your art “doesn’t look like much”. In fact, it’s gonna happen with almost anything you make.
You’ll sit back and think to yourself those words over and over. And there’ll be probably more than one time you just want to throw in the towel.
Don’t.
Keep going.
It’s in there!

Today, Tatum decided to share this project they did in college, focusing on perspective (aka the artist’s nightmare, short of drawing hands).
“I just remember sitting there, looking at these blocks floating in space and thinking ‘Oh man, what was I thinking. I should just go pick something else, something easier.‘ But the weather outside was rainy and windy and most of the buildings on campus were closed. So I stuck with my library sketch.

It ended up being one of the strongest pieces in my portfolio.

It might take time, a whole lot of erasing, reworking, retouching... But it’s in there!

It's cool here at New Heights!

We've got the AC on, and it's too darn hot for Tatum to teach so we're going to be rescheduling our Abstract Acrylics and Beginner Acrylics classes tonight and swapping 'em for some Open Create hours. Bring some friends or swing by solo and see what we have to offer!

So Long Summer!

It's a bittersweet feeling to say Sayonara Summer, Nice to See Ya September!
But with the new season calls for some major updates to our website and socials (think Spring Cleaning!) We'll be doing some big updates in the coming days and weeks - such as adding more info about our Meditative and Therapeutic Art Groups, our Discord server (now linked on our Homepage as the next header!), and PRIVATE TUTORING OPTIONS?? Wow.

Of course, our Newsletter readers will be the first to know, but stay tuned here on our socials as well - it's all comin' down the pike! Due to the recent Wisconsin Federal Judge approval of ai-created child imagery - which I am personally disgusted and frankly horrified over, New Heights School of Art will no longer be posting images or videos of our students under the age of 18 on any social media or our website. We will continue to post works (taken with express permission from both themselves and their guardians) but we will not include either images or videos of the kids themselves. I will personally be going through each video and image we have shared thus far to remove them.

If you wish to look into the case with which this judgment was found, please look up the case of Steven Anderegg of Wisconsin. Please consider this a trigger warning.

AI does not create. AI replicates, pulls information from different sources, and combines it into a new image. A big source of those images (both faces and bodies) is social media, and - for Facebook and Instagram, there is no way to turn it off. You can privatize your profiles, but for public facing businesses - there is no way.

The safety and wellbeing of our students is our first priority at New Heights, always. We will continue to use our voices to bring awareness and calls to action, and we will not ignore when we find something out like this. It is our reality, and we are at a time in our history where we cannot bury our heads in the sand and pretend we don't know. Our choices matter. Our voices matter. And we choose to protect our students.
