Both children and teenagers often find it difficult to recognize or identify how they may feel. Using activities and teaching strategies like self-regulation can help them to develop the skills needed to identify their emotions independently and to be able to regulate them through a variety of techniques.
This self-regulation fortune teller is great to play a fun game and learn about self-regulation. You can discuss their feelings and what action they can take to make themselves feel better with this fortune teller. Plus, you get the calming benefits of coloring and crafting. I have used this with clients and they love it!

It can seem overwhelming to have to incorporate all of these all at once! I know it took me 5 years before I felt like I had a handle on all 5 of these elements. Start with the one that could use the most improvement and once you feel satisfied with that move on to a different one. It could take a long time, but what's important is that you don't give up! Healing is a slow process, but it's worth it! We only get one life, so let's live it well.

Anxiety is our nervous system's attempt to protect us when it perceives danger. Our Brain doesn't know the difference between real or imagined, past, or present stress, especially if you've experienced trauma. Even when we ignore, belittle, or numb warning signs our system stays hypervigilant. It is always on and scanning for threats.
Depression is our nervous system exhausted, overwhelmed, and self-protecting to the point of shutdown. Anxiety ignored will often manifest as depression later.
Next time ANXIETY shows up ask yourself:
--What does my system perceive as a threat?
--How can I let my nervous system know I've received the message?
--What do I need to feel cared for right now?
Next time DEPRESSION hows up ask yourself?
--What's overwhelming right now?
--What's within my control and what's not?
--How can I rest and reset?
