Yesterday was a hard day for us. We had to say goodbye to one of our founding lesson horses. He was my friend, my partner, my guide, and most importantly a major part of my girls' lives and horse journeys. To all the students who rode him he was their teacher, their buddy, their safe place and more. Cody thank you for all the years you gave willingly to help others. Fly free. You will always be in my heart. (4/27/97-8/21/26)

You already know the moment you're picturing, your kid walking into a barn a little unsure, shoulders tucked in, and then, weeks or months later, walking in like they own the place.⁣

What you might not picture is everything that happens in between. The day the horse doesn't cooperate and your kid has to figure out why, instead of giving up. The day they mess up a request and have to try it again, gentler this time. That's not a bad lesson day. That's the lesson.⁣

Here's what we tell parents to think about before that first visit:⁣
- 𝐀𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 — readiness is. We evaluate each child individually, not by a birthday.⁣
- 𝐍𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. Horses respond to calm, and we teach that calm directly, patiently, repeatedly.⁣
- 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐨 — focus, responsibility, how they talk to you on the car ride home.⁣
- 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬. We're thinking about your child's growth over seasons, not just this Tuesday.⁣

Parents, we see you watching from the fence line, holding your breath a little. We're building something in your child that outlasts the lesson, and we're honored to be part of it.⁣

Nobody walks in on day one feeling completely sure of themselves. That's normal.

Confidence isn't something we hand you. I wish we could!

It's built — one small win at a time, and usually right after a small setback. The first catch after three tries. The first trot you asked for and got, after the two you didn't. The first moment you realize you weren't scared, you were just paying attention.

That's resilience, dressed up as confidence. We've watched a lot of people find that version of themselves in our arena. We'd love to help you find yours.

The first time a new rider stands at the mounting block, most of them don't say a lot.

They just look at the horse the way you'd look at something enormous and unfamiliar and quietly wonderful all at once — a little bit of math happening behind their eyes, trying to figure out how something so big can also be so gentle, caring and intuitive.

That's most first lessons around here. Quiet nerves, a lot of watching, and then, usually within the hour, the beginning of something.

If that's you right now, here's all you actually need to know:
- No gear, no horse, no riding history required
- Nervous is normal — we plan for it, we don't rush past it
- Comfortable riding pants and closed-toe shoes are the whole dress code

Your first lesson is about getting comfortable near the horse, not proving anything

Everyone who rides here started exactly where you are. Most of them came back the next week, then for years!

People come to Jeneration Horseworks to learn to ride. Here's the thing, though — that's almost never why they stay.

I want to tell you what we actually watch happen here. A kid walks in who won't make eye contact, who mumbles when you ask her a question. And then one day, she's standing next to a 1,000-pound animal, giving it a clear, calm direction — and it listens. You can watch something shift in her shoulders in real time. That's not a riding lesson anymore. That's something else.

Horses don't care about your bravado. They can't be talked into trusting you, they're not impressed by confidence you're faking. They respond to the real thing: honesty, consistency, showing up the same way today as you did yesterday. So when a rider earns a horse's trust, they're not learning a horsemanship skill. They're practicing something much bigger — what it actually feels like to lead, to be trustworthy, to believe you're capable before you have proof.

So what does that turn into, over time? A few things we see over and over:

- 𝐀 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. The same steadiness it takes to direct a horse starts showing up in classrooms, job interviews, hard conversations — anywhere they need to be heard and believed.
- 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝. You can't fake your way past a horse, so every bit of confidence built here is real — and they know exactly how they got it.
- 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩. Steady, even on the days it's hard. Especially on the days it's hard. That's the part that doesn't stay in the arena.

This is the whole philosophy, honestly. We're not just teaching riding. We're watching people — kids and adults both — figure out they're more capable than they thought, one ride at a time. And that confidence doesn't stay on the horse. It walks into the classroom with them. The interview. The room they used to feel small in.

The horse is the teacher. Confidence is the lesson. Riding's just how we get there.

We hear it more than almost anything else from parents: “I didn't expect this to change so much outside the barn.”

A child who struggled to focus in school starts bringing that same focus home from lessons. A kid who was hesitant to try new things, a new sport, a new class, a new friend group — suddenly says yes more often. Parents tell us their child stands taller, speaks up more, and handles setbacks with more patience than before they started riding.

We don't think that's a coincidence. Horses ask kids to be present, to communicate clearly, and to keep trying even when something doesn't work the first time. Those are the exact muscles that carry over into the classroom, the soccer field, and everywhere else confidence gets built.

From lessons, shows, clinics to camps, we have opportunities for both the young and young at heart!

For the riders chasing something bigger, we're right there with you, clipboard in hand and probably yelling encouragement a little too loudly from the rail.

Rated shows ask more.
More preparation, more pressure, more of literally everything, including the amount of times you'll repack your show bag the night before.

So we make sure the coaching, the training, and the horse partnership behind every rider going into that ring is solid before they ever cross the start line.

But I want to be clear about something. Even at this level, horsemanship comes first. A rider who understands their horse, is calm and confident will always outlast a rider who's only chasing a score.

I am so proud of every rider in this program who's stepped up to that challenge. Watching you grow into competitors who still lead with heart, and still come find me for a hug whether the round was clean or chaotic, is one of my favorite parts of this job.

Nobody warns you that the walk after the lesson might be the whole lesson. 🌿

Here's Jen and one of our riders taking Ella for a stroll around our beautiful, private ranch — no agenda, no pressure, just a girl, a pony, and the kind of quiet that makes you breathe differently.

These little adventures outside the arena are where the magic sneaks in. Riders learn to stay soft when the world opens up. Horses learn to trust their person past the fence line. And somewhere in the middle, confidence grows — real, rooted, carry-it-with-you confidence that shows up at 4-H, at WASET, at the first horse show, and honestly? At school, at home, in every hard moment that asks them to hold steady.

Whether your kiddo dreams of ribbons, trail rides, or just this — a sunny afternoon with a good pony — we'd love to be part of their story.

This might be one of our favorite lessons on the schedule, and I don't say that lightly, even though it mostly consists of tiny boots, even tinier helmets, and at least one very serious negotiation about whether the pony can come home with them.

Young riders pony lessons aren't about teaching technique. They're about a child's very first experience with a horse being safe, gentle, and full of wonder. That first nose boop. That first wobbly little walk around the arena, beaming the whole way, completely convinced they are now a professional.

I have watched a love of horses get planted in these lessons that lasts a lifetime. Some of our most dedicated teen riders started right here, on a pony, barely tall enough to see through the steeds ears!

This barn is built to grow with your family, from that very first pony lead all the way through years of lessons, shows, and everything in between.

I love a schooling show for one simple reason. It's low pressure and high growth, all at once, with just enough nerves to make the hot chocolate in the trailer afterward taste like a victory lap regardless of how the round went.

These shows give riders a real taste of competition, coaching, and the jitters that come with both, without the weight of a rated show on their shoulders. I've watched riders walk into the ring shaking and walk out glowing, not because of a ribbon, but because they did the hard thing and it went fine. Sometimes better than fine.

That's how confidence gets built. Not by avoiding nerves. By riding through them with people in your corner who already believe you can.
