Since 1976, when we opened our doors, school districts and parents have trusted us with the special education of more than 3,000 students, ages 3 through 21.

Smashing Pumpkins in Class 156!

These students were busy this morning “smashing pumpkins!”

They used paint-soaked pom-poms and “smashed” them under plastic wrap to create colorful fall pumpkins.

What a fun, hands-on way to get creative and make some festive decorations for the classroom!

Baking Fun!

Last week, one of our amazing students put her baking skills to work while making delicious banana chocolate chip muffins! She helped with cracking eggs, measuring and pouring ingredients, mixing the batter, and carefully filling the muffin cups before baking.

We are so proud of her hard work and dedication!

We can't wait to see what you'll bake next!

Learning Goes Beyond the Classroom!

These students were introduced to the vocabulary words for their newest unit, **"By the Sea."

To kick off the unit, students participated in a Vocabulary Scavenger Hunt, searching for words and clues while exploring outside the classroom. This engaging activity got everyone moving, thinking, and collaborating as they became familiar with new vocabulary in a fun and interactive way.

We love finding creative ways to make learning active and memorable.

Science got EXTRA sweet in class this week! After diving into the fascinating world of DNA and inherited traits, our students put their knowledge to the test by creating their very own DNA strands using Twizzlers and gummy bears!

Hawkswood School’s Fine Art Show was a huge success!

Featuring incredible student artwork created throughout the school year, this special exhibit showcased the creativity, talent, and hard work of our amazing students — all guided by our exceptionally talented art teacher, Ms. Monique!

From colorful paintings to unique mixed-media creations, every piece reflected the imagination and dedication of our student artists. We are so proud of all they accomplished this year and were thrilled to celebrate their artistic achievements with our Hawkswood community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students and make this event so special!

Here is one of our students hard at work in the kitchen preparing a delicious quiche! He carefully rolled out the dough, used a round pastry cutter, and placed each piece into the pans. Activities like these help students build valuable cooking, fine motor, and independent living skills while having fun and creating something tasty!
