🀄️ THE CARD IS MORE CONNECTED THAN YOU THINK!
These are the biggest shifts on the 2026 card!
✨ CONNECTIONS.
Strong players are not memorizing isolated hands anymore…
they are learning to SEE overlapping patterns.
👀 Look at how often these connectors appear:
6️⃣ SIXES
They connect everywhere:
• 2468
• 369
• Consecutive runs
• 2026 hands
• Mixed sections
The 6 is one of the strongest connector tiles on the card.
🌸 FLOWERS
Flowers are not just extras this year.
They are part of the structure.
Many hands use:
✔ Multiple flowers
✔ Flower groupings
✔ Flowers as anchors
Strong players are holding flowers longer for a reason.
👯 PAIRS
Pairs matter more than many players realize.
Pairs can become:
• Directional clues
• Pivot points
• Structural anchors
A strong pair early can shape your entire direction.
🧩 REPEATED STRUCTURES
The card repeats patterns constantly.
Once you recognize a structure…
multiple hands suddenly become possible.
And one of the BIGGEST repeated patterns?
💥 PUNG PUNG KONG KONG 💥
You’ll see it over…
and over…
and over again.
Once that pattern clicks?
The card starts opening up.
🧠 Next Level Strategy:
Stop looking at the card as separate sections.
Start looking for:
✔ Shared tiles
✔ Shared structures
✔ Shared patterns
✔ Shared possibilities
That’s when the card becomes easier to read…
and MUCH easier to pivot on.

The Anatomy of the Charleston- Part 2
🀄️ HOW TO TACKLE THE CHARLESTON
⸻
1️⃣ KEEP YOUR PAIRS
Pairs create flexibility and often fit multiple hands.
⸻
2️⃣ LOOK FOR PATTERNS
Think:
• Odds
• Evens
• Consecutive numbers
• Repeats
• Flowers
• 369s
⸻
3️⃣ STAY OPEN
Don’t lock into a hand too early.
Let the incoming tiles guide your direction.
⸻
4️⃣ PASS THE MISFITS
Good passes:
• Isolated winds
• Unmatched dragons
• Lone terminals
• Tiles with no connections
⸻
5️⃣ DON’T BUILD SOMEONE ELSE’S HAND
Avoid passing:
• 4-5-6 together
• 7-8-9 together
• All odds together
• All evens together
⸻
6️⃣ PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT ARRIVES
Receiving lots of:
2️⃣ Evens
6️⃣ Sixes
👯 Pairs
🔢 Matching numbers
3️⃣ Odd numbers
The Charleston may be showing you a path.
⸻
7️⃣ FINISH WITH OPTIONS
Your goal is:
✅ Flexibility
✅ Multiple hand possibilities
✅ A clear direction
Not a finished hand.

A Quick Reminder About Mahj Methods 💚
This page is for ALL levels of players.
Some posts are designed for beginners who are still learning the tiles, the Charleston, exposures, and how to read the card.
Some posts dive into strategy, defense, pivoting, reading the table, and advanced decision-making.
If a post feels too advanced right now, that’s okay. Scroll past it and come back later. As your game grows, those posts will start to make more sense.
But before you scroll by every post…
Make sure you’re actually playing by the rules.
I’m hearing from a lot of players who feel conflicted at certain tables. They know the NMJL rules, but they’re being told things like:
❌ “We’ve always played it this way.”
❌ “That’s how our group does it.”
❌ “We don’t follow that rule.”
❌ “Everyone allows that.”
The truth is that house rules are fine if everyone agrees before the game starts. But many players are learning rules that simply aren’t NMJL rules at all.
Sometimes the best strategy isn’t learning an advanced concept.
Sometimes it’s making sure you’re playing the game correctly in the first place.
So whether you’re brand new or have been playing for years:
✔️ Learn the rules.
✔️ Understand why they exist.
✔️ Ask questions.
✔️ Stay curious.
✔️ Keep learning.
There is something here for everyone.
