Exciting News from Eaton Rapids Public Schools

Eaton Rapids Public Schools is pleased to announce that we will provide breakfast to all students at NO COST and lunch for Greyhound Kindergarten students at NO COST during the 2018-2019 School Year. Meals at no cost are possible because of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Each school cafeteria provides a healthy breakfast and lunch each day and we hope you will take advantage of this rare but incredible opportunity. All students at Greyhound Central are encouraged to return the Title 1 survey that will help us continue this program and other programs in the district. Students in grades 1-12 will need to fill out the regular free and reduced meals form at www.lunchapp.com or on the Eaton Rapids School website.

The breakfast meal consists of a choice of the following components each day: Grain, Grain or Meat, Fruit and/or Juice, Milk Students must select at least 3 items from the four components for breakfast and one item must be 1⁄2 cup fruit or juice. The lunch meal consists of a choice of the following components each day: Meat/Meat Alternate, Vegetable, Fruit or Juice, Grain, Milk. Students must select at least 3 items from the five components for lunch and at least 1 item must be 1⁄2 cup of fruit or 1⁄2 cup vegetable. The required number of items must be selected for breakfast and lunch or students will be charged an ala carte price for each individual item. And remember even if your child brings a lunch from home and wants to purchase an entrée, for example, a slice of pizza or chicken nuggets, have them pick up 2 other items (such as fruit and milk) and there will be no charge.

In addition to healthy meals students in grades 6-12 will also have the opportunity to purchase a variety of snacks and beverages that comply with the “Smart Snacks Sold in Schools” regulation. Please note that snack items, beverages, and extra items that are part of the meal must be purchased and no charges will be allowed. Students have the option of paying for snacks as they come thru the serving line or paying in advance by depositing money into a general account. Parents also have the option to pay for snacks online. Milk is .50 cents for cold lunches from home for more detailed information please visit www.sendmoneytoschool.com. This also avoids students needing to keep up with cash on a daily basis. All students in grades 6-12 will be issued a student ID number and will be required to enter this number when they receive a meal or purchase snacks.

Should your child need a special diet prescribed by a licensed medical physician, please have the physician fill out the medical form online at Eaton Rapids Schools website under food service.

We are excited to be able to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision program. Please encourage your children to eat with us.
Please call Linda Vainner at 517-663-4280 with any questions.

We look forward to serving you this school year!

ERPS is pleased to tell you that we will be holding the 4th of July fireworks at the Alumni Stadium.

The fireworks will start around 10 p.m. and the stadium will be open. Parking will be available at all school lots on a 1st-come-1st serve basis. The concessions stand will be open and run by parents and members of the girls' high school soccer team. There will be additional vendors at the fireworks, they will be making donations back to the schools for expansion of our robotics program for elementary and middle school students.

We have worked out a great plan with our Eaton Rapids police department to provide for a fun, safe evening that keeps our school campus a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free zone.

To keep everyone safe, personal and family fireworks will also be prohibited on the Greyhound campus.

We have closed the Union Street Community Center for the afternoon. Earlier today, staff detected a gas leak at the center. Consumers Energy was notified and determined that there was no threat of fire or explosion. We decided to close the center and send our preschool and daycare kids home as a precaution while the leak is fixed. Evening activities will go on as planned. Thank you for understanding.

At about 8:00 this morning, ERPS was notified by the FBI that an unspecified threat to a school was made on an online game chat board. The game is operated out of Finland. The gamer's IP address was traced back to the Eaton Rapids area. There was NO direct threat to our schools. However, as a precaution, we put a Shelter in Place order on all school buildings. The safety of your children is a top priority of ours and we take any threat or potential threat very seriously. The police and the FBI are working on the threat and its potential risks.
