After eight months, our preschool playground's awesome climbing structure is finally open, and the kids are loving it! Thank you to ECEAP and everyone who donated to Give Orcas last December, who made this possible.

A HUGE thank you goes out to the entire Orcas Island community for making the 18th Annual Honorary Mayor’s Race a great success! Thank you to the campaign managers who spent over a month talking about and sharing info about the fundraiser and about their candidates as well as showing up to work the booths at the Farmer’s Markets and other events. Thank you also to the OICH Board members and of course all of you who contributed by casting votes and sharing in the excitement! This fundraiser continues to provide support to our school and therefore benefits the children and families on the island!

Thanks to a generous Orcas Island family donor and Sea Island Sand & Gravel, the candidates will win: 500 votes for the most, 400 for 2nd place, 300 for 3rd place, 200 for 4th place and 100 for 5th place. For nearly two decades, the Orcas Island community has come together to elect a local animal as our Honorary Mayor of Orcas Island. While the race is full of fun, island character, and a little friendly competition, the mission behind it is serious — this beloved community fundraiser supports Orcas Island Children’s House, helping keep early childhood education available and affordable for island families.

This year’s candidates are ready to campaign for your support — with a lineup that includes some incredible four-legged (and finned!) contenders. From dogs to a donkey to a humpback whale, this year’s race is truly one-of-a-kind! 🐶🫏🐋

The candidate with the most votes will be crowned our next Honorary Mayor and receive the official key to the island until the next race! 🗝️🐾

And the best part? Anyone can vote! 🎉 You don’t have to live on Orcas Island to participate — friends, family, visitors, and supporters from near and far can all help choose our next mayor.
