Praeger, wrote a proposal for the Creating Healthy Communities Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The proposal requested $2,200 to restore the school's greenhouse. The grant was awarded and starting in March 2011 students have been working in the greenhouse and growing a variety of healthy foods. The students have also formed a partnership with Kelly Allen at NACC, who has started a 4-acre garden on the college campus. Today, the Notre Dame Greenhouse Committee continues Praeger's goal to promote healthy eating and lifestyles by maintaining and expanding the greenhouse's plant diversity. You can find tomatoes, varieties of squash, strawberries, lettuce, cucumber, pumpkins, and various herbs such as dill, lavender, cilantro, chives, rosemary, sage, and basil tending in our beds. Further efforts are being made by the 2013-2014 executive board to increase membership, enhance productivity, and, most importantly, provide healthier eating and lifestyles to the student body of Notre Dame.
