The East Asia Image Collection has just uploaded 414 postcards, with translations to English, of correspondence between Japanese citizens on the home-front and Imperial Japanese Army soldiers in the Pacific theater, dated mid-1945 through early 1946. East Asia Image Collection postcards featured in the exhibition KANTEN 観展: The Limits of History, at apexart on Church St. in lower Manhattan. The exhibit examines Japan’s expansionism during the Asia Pacific war from an array of viewpoints. On May 3, Eimi Tagore-Erwin, Chinghsin Wu, Asato Ikeda and Paul Barclay held a panel on the visual culture of Japanese imperialism. Co-creator of the EAIC Eric Luhrs also in attendance.
