The Landis Center partnered with the Williams Arts Center Williams Center for the Arts to welcome the 5th graders of Paxinosa Elementary to campus last Friday!

The students enjoyed an incredible day filled with performance, creativity, and hands-on learning. They had the opportunity to watch Philly’s premier contemporary ballet company, BALLETX, perform, followed by a behind-the-scenes stage tour and workshops with some of Lafayette’s talented student groups.

A huge thank you to the Paxinosa 5th graders and their teachers for joining us, MAFia The MAFia , Lafayette Dance Company lafayette college dance co , and Marquis Players The Marquis Players  for creating and leading the workshops, and our partners at the Williams Arts Center for collaborating with us!

What does responsible community engagement look like?

Our Principles of Community Engagement Seminars give students the opportunity to think more deeply about how they show up in our community and build meaningful, reciprocal relationships with community partners.

Some of the key takeaways participants have identified are:

✨ Be mindful of language. The words we use shape how we understand our role in a community. Students reflected on moving away from “savior” language and instead thinking about how we can work with and learn from community members.

🤝 Community service ≠ community engagement. Engagement goes beyond simply giving time or completing a task. It is collaborative, relationship-based, and centered on learning and mutual benefit.

👀 Recognize privilege and bias. Students considered how their own identities, experiences, and assumptions shape the way they engage with others, and how representing Lafayette carries responsibility for the relationships we build within the Easton community.

These conversations are just the beginning. Our goal is to help students continue building the knowledge, skills, and self-awareness they need to engage with our community thoughtfully, ethically, and responsibly throughout their Lafayette experience.

🎁 Holiday Helpers is back! 🎁

It’s that time of year again! This fall, help the Landis Center make the holiday season brighter for local families through our annual Holiday Helpers Gift Drive.

Our kick-off party will take place on November 2, in Farinon Atrium, but even before those festivities, we’re kicking things off with a gift card drive!

You can purchase an Amazon gift card by scanning the QR code or visiting our Linktree and clicking the Amazon Wishlist link. Your card will be delivered directly to our post office, making it easy to give from wherever you are!

The Lafayette Men’s Lacrosse team keeps showing up for our community partners!

This past Friday and Sunday, they helped set up and break down the Mary Meuser Library Book Sale. Twice a month, they unload the Second Harvest Food Bank truck at ProJeCt of Easton. They’ll also be at the Easton Area Public Library for two book sale dates this month, and volunteering with the after-school program at Cheston Elementary later this semester.

Our community partners know they can count on Lafayette Men's Lacrosse , and we’re so grateful they continue to give their time and energy to help out!

What an incredible week of POSP! 💙

Our newest first-year students spent the week getting acclimated to Lafayette, exploring the city of Easton, connecting with our amazing community partners, and learning from their peers about the mission and values of the Landis Center.

We are incredibly proud of our entire POSP cohort for embracing meaningful and reciprocal community engagement throughout the week and can't wait to see what this new semester brings!

What a wonderful way to welcome the Class of 2030! 💙

Earlier this month, we welcomed students from Cheston Elementary School to campus for our annual MOSAIC Pen Pals visit!

After spending the school year writing letters back and forth, students finally had the opportunity to meet their college pen pals in person. Throughout the day, they explored campus through a scavenger hunt and tour, learned about college life, and built meaningful connections with their mentors and peers.

With over 80 students from each school participating, the MOSAIC Pen Pals Program continues to foster literacy, mentorship, and a sense of belonging for both elementary and college students alike. We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this day so special! ❤️

Landis Center for Community Engagement honored volunteers across campus and throughout Easton at the center’s annual awards ceremony April 9

This semester, we hosted 10 Connected Classrooms partnerships and visits. Local elementary school students came to campus for a day of hands-on learning led by Lafayette students, covering topics like zine-making, upcycling, electricity, microplastics, and the scientific method. While they’re here, they also get a campus tour, pizza lunch, and a chance to see what college life is like.

Thanks to the professors who build this into their courses, the students who design and teach the lessons, and the volunteers who lead tours and spend time with visiting classes!
