Keep thinking about this tune after seeing Wilco last week in Bethlehem… Thanks Bonnie Packard for the (early) birthday gift and the memory

Some thoughts on thinking - and I definitely was guilty of worshiping my guitar heroes at various times. Jimi Hendrix, steve Howe, pat metheny, steve Cardenas, ben monder etc

Also, I don’t worship Musashi , just came across the poster on Temu for something like $3.76

The end is a snippet of me playing over a blues form with an imaginary band rhythm section in my head for non jazz people out there that just hear a bunch of notes

Sometimes the picking phenoms of the internet unintentionally (or intentionally) make us feel like we need to have unbelievable picking technique and practice 8 hours a day. Long story short - you don’t need to and if you find what works for you you can devote more time to making music and having fun. Many of greats on guitar, especially in jazz -
think Wes Montgomery (used thumb, but still lots of legato) Jim Hall, Sco, Metheny actually use hammer-ons and pull offs, slides etc to craft their phrasing and sound. The ultimate example would be Bill Frisell, who averages 6 upstrokes a year I’ve heard.

Reel #1 from the “Polluted air gave me a huge headache so I’m wearing sunglasses and a little moody series”

This Noel Gallagher guitar solo is the perfect to learn if you’re just getting into how to play over major chords in a rock context !

Currently have 5 openings for private students at my downtown Easton PA studio!

Heading to Vault Brewing this May for some live jazz guitar — everything from Duke Ellington and Miles Davis to the Beatles and Elliott Smith. I’ve got a date this month and so does Mike Lorenz, swipe to see when we’re each playing. See you there. 🎸
(And seriously, order the onion rings.)
