Eastland Middle School recently celebrated a group of talented 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for their outstanding writing as part of the school's new Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) initiative. The award recognized students who demonstrated exceptional skill in communicating ideas and mastering different forms of writing, not just in their English Language Arts classes, but also across subjects like science, social studies, and math.
The WAC initiative, launched this year, aims to emphasize that writing is a critical skill essential for success in all academic areas. By integrating regular writing assignments, such as lab reports and historical analyses to persuasive essays and descriptive narratives, into various subjects, EMS is fostering a deeper understanding and better retention of core concepts.
"We are incredibly proud of the hard work and creativity displayed by these young writers," said Principal Damon Rodgers. "The quality of the submissions across all grade levels proves that our students are embracing the challenge of using writing as a tool for learning and expressing complex thought. This is exactly what the Writing Across the Curriculum initiative is designed to accomplish."
The award winners each received a certificate of achievement and hung them up on our Maverick Milestone’s Wall to encourage their continued passion for writing.
Eastland Middle School plans to make this recognition at least once a six weeks, further solidifying the message that strong writing skills are foundational to all learning. The school encourages all students to continue honing their craft, recognizing that effective writing is key to future success in high school and beyond.
