Williston Northampton School celebrated another major milestone on our journey to building a new Academic Center on campus after a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony October 2.

The event featured remarks from Head of School Robert Hill, Board of Trustees members Rich Monopoli ’89 and Kevin Hoben ’65, and Philip Chen of Annum Architects. Representatives from O&G Industries and CSL Consulting also helped celebrate the groundbreaking.

“We’ve seen the tremendous impact that our new Residential Quad has had on our community,” Hill said. “This new center will do the same thing for our academic program, which is at the heart of everything we do here.”

Sometimes beautiful things rise up from our darkest moments. For Jeffrey Dorman ’06, two harrowing years spent in a pediatric hospital as his daughter recovered from leukemia left him searching for his own kind of healing, and spurred the creation of the Feeding Families Foundation.

Their mission is simple and fundamental: provide free meals at pediatric hospitals to caregivers looking after their children. A pilot program launched at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital has now rolled out to six hospitals across the country, with more to come.

“Everybody on the unit is in the same boat. They’re all nervous, all anxious. They have zero control of the outcome,” says Jeff, who was awarded Williston’s Trailblazer Award during Reunion 2026. “Our goal is to make a bad situation just a little bit better.”

Along the way, Jeff has also leaned on his Williston family for support. Classmates David Borowsky and Joe Wold joined the founding Board, and David Fontaine ’06, of Fontaine Bros., recently made a major gift through the Fontaine Community Foundation.

It’s one thing to learn survival skills and put them to the test in a real-world scenario. it’s another thing entirely to do that while being filmed naked—and potentially very afraid.

But for Teal Bulthuis ’01, the idea of extreme survival scenarios aren’t daunting—they’re part and parcel of what she built a career out of. A 20-year active-duty member of the U.S. Air Force and a primitive-skills practitioner, Teal has become a popular contestant on the hit TV show “Naked and Afraid” after a dare from her husband to sign up. Three challenges later, Teal has shown off her survival skills in spectacular fashion.

“My favorite philosopher is Alan Watts, who said, ‘The meaning of life is just to be alive,’” she said in an interview. “If you are constantly living your life in your comfort zone, that’s really the most dangerous risk of all—never trying something that could make you feel truly alive.”

We're thrilled to announce that John Hazen White Jr. '76, Chair of the Williston Board of Trustees, has committed $5 million toward the construction of Williston's new academic building. "John has been a passionate champion of Williston's mission for decades," said Head of School Robert W. Hill III. "This gift reflects his deep personal connection to the school and commitment to advancing learning for generations to come."

Our newest faculty members are here! The new group of teachers and administrators joined us on campus starting last week, and were introduced to the entire faculty at the start of faculty meetings today. We're thrilled to welcome 16 new faces to campus, including three alumni that are back to share their love for Williston!

Long after graduating, many alumni still recall certain words from their time here—a coach’s pregame catchphrase ("Head, heart, legs" by Coach Conroy, maybe?), a teacher's feedback on a big paper, an advisor’s gentle nudge to try something new, or a classmate’s wisdom that came at just the right moment. For an upcoming issue of the Bulletin, we're exploring the theme of "Williston Voices.” We're looking for stories about the voices that motivated you, challenged you, comforted you, made you laugh, or helped you discover your own voice.
