The house spoke before people did.
Some houses teach us safety.
Some teach us silence.
Some teach us to read the weather in another person’s footsteps before we know our own names.
Over the next six weeks, I’ll be sharing The Shape of Silence—a series of lyrical memoir short stories by Isa Gitana Xingona Femme about surviving, remembering, and finding language for what once lived only in the body.
This first story is Forecasting, about learning to hear danger before words.
If you’ve ever learned to read a room before you learned to read yourself, this story is for you.
Read Forecasting at the link in our bio.
❤️ If it resonates, we’d love to hear what stayed with you.
