Here's one of our favorite foot sweeps: anytime you see your opponent more than shoulder-width apart, simply hook around the Achilles area with the instep of your foot and create a sweeping action. You may also use your upper body grips to pull them in the opposite direction of the sweeping action (always pull them away from their base of support).

This is a low-risk move that doesn't require much commitment and therefore leaves you less vulnerable to counter throws.

Here's an interesting Jiu-Jitsu submission hold which traps both arms and creates a hyperextension.

One of the things that makes Jiu-Jitsu addictive is how all the positions and submissions interconnect. The more you learn, the more you realize that you always have options. If your opponent moves one way, you move another. If they defend one option, they funnel themselves into a worse scenario.

One of my favorite counters for a leg tackle or a wrestling double leg is a classic judo throw called "Sumi Gaeshi."

This is a technique that works well in a "sport" context as well as in a more self-defense or combative sense.
