We ended the 2026 Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival on a high note last night! Pun intended!

From Jon Nakamatsu, Pianist’s solo performance of composer Elena Ruehr’s "The Gork," to Jon N., Jon Manasse, and Daniel Hass presenting the “street music” of Beethoven, and ending with Jon, Jeremiah, Blacklow Jameel Martin, and Daniel’s performance of the lilting Gabriel Fauré quartet, it was an extraordinary evening of truly gorgeous music.

Thanks to these wonderful musicians, and thanks to all who filled the First Congregational Church of Wellfleet and all our venues throughout the Festival. See you next summer!

The Provincetown Independent interviewed composer Elena Ruehr about her solo piano piece that Jon Nakamatsu, Pianist will perform at our closing concert Friday night at the First Congregational Church of Wellfleet, United Church of Christ. Elena wrote the piece, entitled "The Gork," in memory of her father. Over 50 people enjoyed the rehearsal this morning for Friday night's "Festival Finale!" Cellist Daniel Hass joined Jon Manasse, clarinet, and Jon Nakamatsu, piano, to rehearse Ludwig van Beethoven’s Trio in B-flat Major for Piano, Clarinet, and Cello, Op. 11.

Then Jeremiah Blacklow, violin, and Jameel Martin, viola, joined Daniel and Jon N. to rehearse Gabriel Fauré’s Quartet No. 1 in C minor for Violin, Viola, Cello, and Piano, Op. 15. Jameel called the piece "an absolute masterpiece."

Jon M. referred to the musicians joining him and Jon N. to close out the season as "young hotshots." Their playing is impressive! The audience got to hear not just the music but the discussion among the musicians as they fine-tuned their approach.

Canadian cellist and composer Daniel Hass has built an impressive career that encompasses a diverse range of pursuits, genres, and achievements. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras across Canada, the United States, and Europe; has been commissioned by the Glenn Gould Foundation, Random Access Music, Tribeca New Music, and the Revolve Dance Program, A sought-after chamber musician in New York, Daniel frequently performs as a guest artist with the Jupiter Chamber Players, the Omega Ensemble, and Random Access Music. Uniquely versatile as cellist, Daniel often performs and records with modern jazz ensembles as well as with pop and folk artists.

Daniel is a founding member of the Renaissance String Quartet, which premiered his first string quartet, “Love and Levity,” at their debut New York recital in 2023, and performed his arrangements of “Satisfy My Soul” by Bob Marley and “Many Rivers to Cross” by Jimmy Cliff during their recital in Kingston, Jamaica which benefited Jamaica Red Cross and the Immaculate Conception High School Orchestra. Daniel graduated from The Juilliard School in 2017 as a recipient of the Kovner Fellowship, and in 2021 with a master’s degree.

Jameel Martin is an accomplished violist and writer, poet, and librettist who made his solo debut with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17. His stage play, “Ransom Place,” premiered at the Onyx Theater Festival of Indianapolis in the fall of 2022. It was subsequently published in the inaugural issue of NYC-based A Common Well Journal in the fall of 2023. He and cellist/composer, Daniel Hass, were selected as part of the 2023 cohort of librettist/composer teams for Overtone Industries’ Original Vision development workshop, to transform the play into an opera.

A founding member of the Renaissance String Quartet, Jameel is a graduate of The Juilliard School. He received an MFA in Poetry from Brooklyn College, where he was also an Adjunct Lecturer of English Composition and editor-in-chief/poetry editor of The Brooklyn Review, and is currently pursuing an MA in Performance Studies at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Join us this morning, Thursday, August 20, at 10:00 AM at Dennis Union Church, 713 Main Street in Dennis for a FREE open rehearsal. Jon Manasse, clarinet, and Jon Nakamatsu, piano, will join three outstanding young musicians from the Renaissance String Quartet: Jeremiah Blacklow, violin, Jameel Martin, viola, and Daniel Hass, cello, to rehearse for their concert on Friday night in Wellfleet.

The musicians will rehearse Ludwig van Beethoven’s Trio in B-flat Major for Piano, Clarinet, and Cello, Op. 11, and/or Gabriel Fauré’s Quartet No. 1 in C minor for Violin, Viola, Cello, and Piano, Op. 15.

Violinist Jeremiah Blacklow began studying violin when he was three and debuted in Carnegie’s Weill Hall at the age of eight: today, he’s the Principal Second Violin of the Glimmerglass Opera Festival and a featured artist of The Omega Ensemble. As a performer, Jeremiah has taken the stage at important cultural centers across the globe including Incheon’s Tri-Bowl, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, New York’s DiMenna Center, Marlboro Music, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

A founding member of The Renaissance String Quartet, Jeremiah has taught over a dozen students through the music program at Zeta Charter Schools in the South Bronx. He is committed to sharing the artistic expression of classical music with people from all communities. Jeremiah completed his master’s degree in violin performance at The Juilliard School and is currently a Graduate Center Fellow pursuing a doctoral degree at City University of New York.
