Message from Mrs. Kayla McKinney to incoming FCHS Freshman/Freshman Parents & Guardians: I would like to let everyone know about a new class that I am very overyjoyed and blessed to be teaching in the 17-18 school year at Floyd Central. This is for students who are interested in pursuing careers in the education field (teacher, administrator, counselor, instructional coach, curriculum specialist, curriculum, writer/consultant, school psychologist, curator, professor, policy advisor, tutor, assessment specialist). This class is called the Teaching and Learning Pathway - the first course is titled Learning Communities. It is a pathway as deemed by KDE, so it is a four-year track with an assessment to finish. As you can see, there are three options for assessment, but I am rather impressed and excited that one of them is the Praxis, which is often the test students must take to enter the education program at several colleges. This class will teach you all about what it means to be a teacher and work in the educational field. You will receive time to observe and teach classes at the grade level that you are interested in to see if this is really the choice for you. Please, share this with your friends and tag any incoming Freshman who may be interested in taking the class. You will need to have LEARNING COMMUNITIES on your schedule to be in the course. I look forward to an amazing year getting to know my Jaguars!
