Our Jaguar community is heartbroken by the loss of one of our own, Dustin Joshua Damron, a senior at Floyd Central High School and the Floyd County School of Innovation.
There simply are not words that can adequately express the sadness that comes with losing a young person who was part of our schools. Dustin was a classmate, a friend, a student, and a young man whose presence mattered to so many. His loss will be felt deeply throughout Floyd Central, FCSI, and our community.
From the moment we learned of this tragedy, our first concern has been Dustin’s family and those closest to him. We have remained in contact with the family throughout this difficult time, offering our support and assistance in any way we can while respecting their wishes. We have also been mindful that their privacy and wishes should guide when and how we shared this loss with our broader community.
As our students and staff return to school, counselors and support staff will be available at Floyd Central and FCSI for anyone who needs someone to talk to, a place to grieve, or simply some extra support. In the days ahead, we want every student and staff member to know that support is available and that no one has to navigate the grief and emotions that come with this loss alone.
Most importantly, we ask our entire Jaguar community to surround Dustin’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, and all those who loved him with compassion, support, thoughts, and prayers in the days ahead.
As we move through the days ahead, we will continue to support our students and staff with compassion and care. We know this loss will affect each person differently, and we want everyone in our school to know we are there for them in their need.
Please continue to keep Dustin’s family and everyone who loved him in your thoughts and prayers.
