That period in Life when ya elaborate in your mind jus exactly what you'd prefer your Grandchildren to address you as....They're, of course, many choices: Grandfather,Grandpa,Papaw all of which are titles the children already call other family members on both sides of the family and can be a bit challenging when the child/children begin to talk in more than one syllable words. My solution? I prefer something as simple, memorable and sooo much less confusing for most any age: "Pops", yes only 4 letters, one syllable, somewhat easy to pronounce. Not to mention is a "gateway word"if you will. Such as Soda Pops (which I'm well aware are NOT very nutritious), Popscicle (another not so nutritious treat) & Pop tarts (another not so nutritious snack/a quick modern go to replacement for cereal or French toast if you, like most hustling & bustling parents, are always
seemingly in a whirlwind from the time the alarm clock sounds right up to the time they actually arrive in their seat enroute to whatever educational institution you choose for them to attend. Which is why I simplified it for all of em, I'm "Pops", no first or last name added to the pronoun, keepin it simple, easier for them to recall and, I have found out in the last 6yrs & 7months & counting..when both sides of the family have a get together? They AINT NO MISTAKIN if they're attempting to summons my individual attention.
So far,I'm pleased to announce, works out very well, for children and adults as well. And it doesn't make me feel as old either....that is until I walk passed and inadvertently catch a glimpse in "THE MIRROR". Doesn't take me long to figure out to turn my head AWAY from that reflective piece of glass that hangs in most everyones lavatory.
In summary: 'Round here,in these parts, they call me, "Pops".
Which wouldn't bother me if that's all they ever call me.
