Dunbar School Alumni Association. Inc

During our monthly meeting, 7/29/24, I announced that I will NOT be on any future NOMINATION LIST as the President of the Dunbar School Alumni Association. As of December, 2024, I would have served two terms (4 years).

Seriously, I wanted to quit a few times before; however, Pete talked me out of it.😀

My major focus was on FUNDRAISING efforts to help enhance our scholarship program and to recruit more members.

For the first time, we are able to give $1000 per recipient. This is commendable. Hopefully, this amount will increase. Also, I encouraged nine members who joined our organization.
We connected with the Foundations of the Carolinas, as well as started a 'strategic and development planning committee' for a proposed museum in East Spencer.

Thank you for trusting me to initiate the first Dunbar School SPORTS HALL OF FAME.
We presented two very successful events that raised between $12,000 and $14,000 for each event. (Our treasurer will give you the exact amount for each).

Also, as president, I chaired two Dunbar Mass Reunion parades and one under Reginald Massey's leadership. Singularly, I raised enough money to take care of all of our bills, including funds for three bands, one from W-Salem with a little surplus in the treasury.

NOTE: LET US CONCENTRATE ON RECRUITING YOUNGER MEMBERS INTO OUR DUNBAR SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.
THIS RECRUITMENT WILL ASSURE OUR LEGACY.
Through my encouragement, two new members in their 50s joined.
I WILL CONTINUE TO RECRUIT OTHERS.

What time is it? It is time for the Dunbar Mass School Reunion.

It is hard to believe how fast years have gone by! “We’ve come this far by faith, trusting in the Lord.”

We thank you for your continued membership over the years to the Dunbar Alumni Association Inc. We hope and pray that you will continue to support the Association by paying dues of $40 per year.

We are a 501(c)3 charitable association by the state of North Carolina so dues and contributions are tax deductible.

The purpose of the Dunbar School Alumni Association, Inc. is to provide scholarships to descendants of former students, teachers, and administrators of Dunbar School of East Spencer, NC. Through your donations and the associations fundraising efforts throughout the year we are able to accomplish this goal.

Our last Dunbar School Mass Reunion in 2022 was a wonderful affair, many thanks for your support and attendance. The Dunbar School Alumni Association, Inc. raised funds for 7 students to receive heritage scholarships in 2022 and 5 students in 2024.

This reunion was organized on April 12, 1984. The founder and president of this great mass reunion was none other than Mrs. Essie Kiser Foxx, who knew the task would be hard, but God was holding her hand. “To God be the glory” for the things she has done, along with her committee members. Her last request was that the Dunbar School Alumni Association, Inc. continue with the reunion for many years to come.

The Dunbar Mass Reunion 2024 will be held Labor Day Weekend.

The Dunbar School Alumni Association. Inc 2023 Sports Hall of Fame was held at The Knight Pavilion. Owner Linda Smyre Knight of the Pavilion provided decorations, security, DJ services,
photographer services, and catered. Also, a Videographer was hired.

Dunbar School Alumni Association. Inc inducted 21 former school athletes into the Dunbar Sports Hall of Fame on September 9, 2023.

The event's special guest speaker was former NFL New York Jets football running back . Over 200 people attended the event with as Host, Margaret Ingram-Jones, DSAA, Inc. President, The Honorable William R. Kennedy, DSAA, Inc., Vice-President, and the entire Dunbar School Alumni Association. Inc Committee!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL INDUCTEES!

Dr. Jewell Witherspoon Holland was inducted into The Dunbar School Sports Hall Of Fame 2023 by the DDunbar School Alumni Association. Inc Saturday, September 9, 2023.
Dr. Holland was the most senior inductee at the age of 91, (92 Years Young in December 2023).
