The Religious Education office will be closed Labor Day – Monday 9/7/2026 and re-open Tuesday 9/8/2026. Regular office hours – Monday-Wednesday 10am-4pm; Thursday 10am-2pm.

Attention Catechists
There will be a Catechist meeting Wednesday 9/9/2026 at 7:30pm in the auditorium. Please make every effort to attend as we begin our 2026/2027 Religious Education school year.

THE FINAL DAY TO REGISTER IS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2026. Registration forms can be found on the Parish website. Please fill them out in their entirety and mail or drop off to the Religious Education office with full payment (including Communion & Confirmation fees if applicable). Our address is: 263 Atlantic Ave., East Rockaway, NY 11518. Please note that the Registration fee is $275 for the first child in the family – each additional child is $100. Classes begin the week of 9/28/2026 and end the week of 4/19/2027. Class assignments will be mailed home early September.

Kick-Off Celebration Mass
We invite all Religious Education students, catechists and their families to join us for a special opening Mass as we begin another wonderful year of faith formation. Join us on Sunday, September 27th, 2026 at the 12Noon Mass. Let us come together in prayer as we ask for God’s blessing and guidance as we begin a new year.

Attention 9th grade Parents
The Most Reverend Robert J. Coyle will be administering the Sacrament of Confirmation to our 9th grade students on Thursday, October 29th, 2026. There will be two ceremonies - one at 11am and one at 2:30pm.
The classes have been broken down into two groups. Please look for the name of the teacher your child had for 8TH GRADE RELIGION CLASS.

Please note these important dates in your calendar:

• 9th Grade Confirmation Retreat - Sunday, September 27th, 2026 - St. Raymond School auditorium. Confirmation Retreats are a Diocesan requirement for all Confirmation students. If your child does not attend this retreat, he/she will need to attend a retreat BEFORE 10/29/2026 at another parish. Group 1 will attend the 9:30am-12Noon session and Group 2 will attend the 1pm-3:30pm session.
• Confirmation Rehearsal and Gown Distribution - Child and Sponsor are to attend their designated rehearsal. If the Sponsor is not able to attend the rehearsal, then we ask that a parent attend in his/her place.

5th grade - 1 catechist needed – Wednesdays 3:30pm-4:30pm

The Religious Education school year goes from September 28th, 2026 - April 21st, 2027. Please consider teaching one of these classes. An option to think about is team teaching - two teachers can split the year, alternate weeks or alternate months. Whatever you decide to do so that the commitment is not overbearing. There is no Registration fee for Catechists. The teacher manuals are very user friendly and geared to adults who are not professional teachers. Please let us know if you are able to help us - our Ministry is one of extreme importance because it keeps our faith strong and alive for years to come. Please contact the Religious Education office if you have any questions to help you with your decision.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: TO DELIBERATELY MISS SUNDAY MASS WITHOUT A SERIOUS REASON IS A MORTAL SIN.

For Catholics, participating in the Holy Mass every Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation is not simply a good habit—it is a sacred obligation. This duty is rooted in the Third Commandment: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8–11), and fulfilled in the celebration of the Lord's Day, Sunday, the day of Christ's Resurrection (John 20:1; Acts 20:7; Revelation 1:10).

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that "the Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice." Therefore, the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation unless prevented by a serious reason, such as illness or the care of infants (CCC 2181–2182).

Likewise, Canon Law states: "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass" (Canon 1247). Knowingly and freely choosing to miss Sunday Mass without a grave reason is considered a mortal sin because it involves neglecting a serious obligation owed to God.

As St. John Paul II beautifully wrote, "Sunday is the day which is at the heart of the Church's life" (Dies Domini, 4). Every Mass is a participation in Christ's one saving sacrifice and a foretaste of the heavenly banquet (CCC 1326, 1407).

May we never take the gift of the Holy Eucharist for granted. Whenever we are able, let us honor the Lord's Day by faithfully attending Holy Mass and placing God first in our lives.
