President Gerald R. Ford (pictured) signed the Education for All Handicapped Children Act on November 29, 1975. The landmark law, renamed the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (or IDEA) in 1990, opened classroom doors for children with disabilities. Thanks to a massive advocacy campaign by CHADD, the US Department of Education issued a memo to all state education agencies in 1991 ensuring that children with ADHD could be served and protected by IDEA.
