Great news from the fight against Lyme Denialism! Thank you Mary Beth Pfeiffer for the update :)

"This page will report on developments in Torrey et al v. Infectious Diseases Society of America et al, a lawsuit filed in 2017 on behalf of Lyme disease patients who say they have been denied care and harmed under existing insurance and medical protocols. The litigation is proceeding in U.S. District Court in Texarkana, Texas. Read Mary Beth's Huffington Post article on the lawsuit, which has been filed against the IDSA, six physician researchers and eight insurance companies."

CASE UPDATE: As of November 2020, all eight insurance companies have settled in Torrey v. IDSA et al. No details are known on the settlements, which have not been made available in public documents. However, a guardian has been named to represent four minors who are plaintiffs. The guardian's job is...

It’s way past time for me to take a more public role in the battle against Lyme disease — a battle that I’ve been fighting mostly privately for years.

Please be careful in areas where ticks are known to live which are in general: in tall grass, under bushes and in the dead leaves. That being said they are also less likely to be found on pavement, in short grass and on your couch (an unwelcome gift from the family pet), but can also be found in those places too.

This is a great article, Lyme isn't the only germ infected ticks may spread to humans. Spray your shoes with permethrin, and check for ticks every night!

"A tick-borne illness called anaplasmosis which has symptoms similar to the coronavirus is making a comeback in Upstate New York, according to a Times Union report. The Times Union says "...some of the symptoms include fever, muscle aches and even respiratory failure." Just like lyme disease, this virus is spread by the deer tick. But there is some good news here. This illness is not as prevalent as lyme, testing for it is very accurate and it is treatable with antibiotics."

New Yorkers are fortunate to have a state Senator so committed to the misery tick bites cause for a portion of the NY population. It is validating to hear someone in power acknowledge that approximately 20% of people treated for tick bites go on to develop Chronic Lyme Disease.

Please sign her petition. I have faith that state budget funds directed by this woman will go towards helping the people of NY and will help combat ticks and the illnesses they cause in our state.

Each year, the Governor’s Executive Budget Proposal fails to include any significant funding to combat Lyme and tick-borne diseases (TBDs), leaving legislators left to fight tooth and nail during budget negotiations to get any funding for the cause included in the final enacted state budget.
