This Member Monday, National FCCLA is celebrating Daniella from Rhode Island, who made history at the 2026 National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.!

Representing the Fashion Design Program from East Providence High School Career & Technical Center, Daniella became the first student from Rhode Island to attend and compete at FCCLA’s National Leadership Conference, and she returned home as a GOLD Medalist! 🥇

Beyond the medal, Daniella’s experience at NLC sparked even more excitement for what her future in FCCLA can hold. By stepping onto the national stage, challenging herself through Competitive Events, and representing Rhode Island with excellence, she is paving the way for more students from her school and across the state to discover everything FCCLA has to offer.

Congratulations, Daniella! Your leadership, talent, and determination are showing exactly where leaders are made. ❤️

Townie Traffic Alert: Paving the Way for a Great School Year!

Dear Townie Families and Students,

Get ready for an incredible school year! As we gear up for the first day back, we want to make sure our East Providence community stays safe and ahead of the game.

Please be aware that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is tentatively scheduled to begin milling and paving operations along Pawtucket Avenue (between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Warren Avenue) starting this week.

Because this major project lands right alongside our first week back, we need everyone to show that famous Townie pride, patience, and team spirit on the road:

- Expect Traffic Delays: Lane adjustments and extra congestion are guaranteed around the school area.
- Allow Extra Time: Leave earlier than usual for morning drop-offs, bus pickup, and school arrival to avoid the rush.
- Drive with Caution: Keep your eyes up and speed down through work zones to protect our students, staff, and road crews.

Thank you for bringing the energy and cooperation that makes East Providence High School so special. Let's work together to kick off this year with a safe, smooth, and pride-filled start!

Please join us in sending a massive congratulations to our Assistant Principal, Jill Usenia, who has been named the new Principal of Martin Middle School!

While it’s bittersweet to see her step out of the EPHS hallways, we could not be prouder of her. Jill has poured so much heart, leadership, and care into our students, staff, and families during her time here.

The best part? She isn’t going far! MMS is getting an incredible leader, and we’re so glad she’s staying right here in Townie Nation.

Jill, thank you for everything you’ve done for East Providence High School. We are going to miss you, but we know you’re going to do amazing things at Martin!

Huge congratulations to East Providence High School students Jayden Vaz, Robbie Mason, and Marcio Ture Lopes! They are heading to Cape Verde to represent our community and compete in an International Basketball Tournament!

We are thrilled to share that Robert “Bob” Hanlon, Director of the East Providence Career and Technical Center, has been named the Top CTE Administrator in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Association for Career and Technical Education (RIACTE)!

Since taking the helm in 2021, Bob has transformed our CTE programs: Expanded student enrollment from ~700 to over 1,000+ students! Championed work-based learning & strong community partnerships! Built clear pathways toward economic mobility & high-wage careers for our Townies!

Thank you, Director Hanlon, for your vision, dedication, and leadership. This statewide recognition is so well-deserved!

The start of the EPHS school year is around the corner, and we’re welcoming the Class of 2030 to East Providence High School with a very special dedication.

Every incoming freshman will be receiving a Class of 2030 t-shirt, but this isn't just school gear, it’s a tribute. Stamped on the sleeve are the words: “Forever a Townie — Dr. Izzy Ramos.”

Dr. Ramos was a giant in East Providence. He believed fiercely in OUR KIDS, in OUR CITY, and in the idea that a school should feel like a family. His heart and spirit defined what it truly means to be a Townie.

We want our newest students to know his name, understand his legacy, and feel the history they’re stepping into.

To the Class of 2030: Wear your shirt with Townie Pride. Look out for each other, take care of your school, and make memories that last. You belong to something special here.

Today, our entire Townie family mourns the loss of a true legend, Hall of Famer, and guardian of the East Providence spirit: Dr. Isadore “Izzy” Ramos.

While he earned a doctorate degree and accumulated titles like Mayor, Superintendent, and Ambassador, he always preferred to just be “Izzy.” To know Izzy was to know a man whose heart beat entirely for East Providence and the young people who walked these halls. From his days as a standout Townie athlete (EPHS Class of ’56) to becoming the first African American teacher at EPHS, a Dean, Assistant Principal, and Assistant Superintendent, Izzy dedicated 35 years of his life directly to our schools.

He broke barriers as the first American mayor of Cape Verdean descent, championed our culture, and mentored generations of students. Walk through our doors today, and you’ll find his name on the EPHS gymnasium a fitting tribute to a man who lifted up every single student who ever walked onto that court.

Dr. Ramos was sharp, strong, and brimming with wisdom until the very end. His love for the youth of East Providence was unmatched, and his legacy of compassion, pride, and generosity is woven into the very fabric of EPHS.

Our thoughts, love, and prayers go out to the Ramos family and to everyone in our city whose life was touched by his remarkable grace.

Rest in peace, Dr. Ramos. Once a Townie, always a Townie. (Thank you to the Cape Verdean Museum for the pictures)

The Friends of Townie Athletics Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 3 is one of the most important fundraisers of the year for our athletic programs, and we still need to fill 18 more foursomes. If you've been thinking about playing, we hope you'll register today and invite a few friends to join you.

If you're not a golfer, you can still have a tremendous impact by becoming a Tee Sponsor. Every sponsorship and every registration helps provide opportunities for our student-athletes and reminds them that this community believes in them.

Please register online using the link in the Friends of Townie Athletics post. Venmo is the preferred payment method, although checks mailed to the Friends of Townie Athletics P.O. Box are also welcome.

Our student-athletes work incredibly hard to represent East Providence with pride, character, and determination. Let's show them that their community is behind them every step of the way.

Congratulations to EPHS Class of 2026 graduate Alyssa Karalekas!

East Providence High School is proud to recognize Alyssa for being named a USA Lacrosse All-Academic, one of the highest honors awarded to student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, and character.

Throughout her time at EPHS, Alyssa distinguished herself through her dedication in the classroom and her outstanding contributions on the lacrosse field. Her commitment, perseverance, and leadership have left a lasting impression on our school community and serve as an example of what it means to be a Townie.

Congratulations on this incredible recognition, Alyssa! We are grateful for all you have contributed to East Providence High School and wish you the very best as you continue your academic and athletic journey at Wellesley College.
