Thanks everyone for a great first day!
Providence Country Day School
Established in 1923, PCD is a college-preparatory school serving students in grades PreK-12.
The Providence Country Day School offers a private college-preparatory education for PreK-12 graders. We are dedicated to inspiring lives of engaged citizenship, and living our core values every day enables us to fulfill this mission. While we are proud of the successful adults our students become, we are equally proud of the joy and inspiration they find along their journey, simply in coming toge

Our teachers are putting the finishing touches on their new classrooms before students return next week! Here's a sneak peek.

For today's Wednesday, we're introducing another of the newest members of our community - Middle School math teacher Mira Kostadinova. Mira comes to us from the Russian School of Mathematics, where she served as a math teacher for the after-school enrichment program, instructing 4th and 5th grade mathematics, as well as 6th and 7th grade algebra and geometry. She has also been a private math tutor for the past 15 years and has taught math locally at West Bay Christian Academy in North Kingstown, RI. Mira earned a BA in Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island.

Each year, PCD seniors spend the last several weeks of high school in a self-designed independent study of at least 75 hours. These senior projects encourage students to take the knowledge they've gained and apply it in a real-world setting. Ethan Baker '24, now a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, spent his senior project learning about engineering and design at Hasbro. Enjoy this look at his experience!

In just over two weeks, Chace Hall will once again be filled with the smells of delicious food and the laughter of our students as they enjoy lunch with their friends! We can't wait to see everyone again!

Last call for all PCD and HBS Alumni, Parents, Faculty and Staff - don't miss our end of summer Knights at Night at the Hot Club in Providence. Join Head of School Kevin Folan this Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 6 pm for a gathering of fellow Knights. This event is open to current and former parents, faculty, and alumni (age 21+ only).

It's another Wednesday and for the next few weeks we'll be highlighting some of the newest members of our faculty and staff. First up, Upper School humanities teacher Pierre Beauregard. Pierre returns to PCD, after having served as a long-term substitute history teacher in 2023. He most recently served as an Adjunct Professor in Rhetoric and Composition at Johnson & Wales University and has been an Inspiring Minds Mentor at Veazie Street Elementary School in Providence. Pierre earned his BA in Literature and MFA in Creative Writing, both from American University, and has been a freelance writer for several publications and organizations. Welcome to PCD!

At PCD, learning can take place anywhere on campus! The campus nature trails provide opportunities for students to both find artistic inspiration and study the natural world. Ms. Helger's Middle School science classes spend time on the trails in the spring to observe and learn to identity many of the plants that grow in our state.

The connection between our students and their teachers is amazing. Ms. Braganca recently invited her Middle School students to her wedding in Newport and we love this pic of the students dressed up for such a special day!

At the end of the school year, our Upper School students participated in the 2nd Annual Cross-Curricular Workshop Week. One of those workshops was Bookbinding. Students visited the RISD Museum and Providence Athenaeum and viewed a wide range of historic books and manuscripts. When they returned to campus, students each constructed their own handmade book, as they explored different bookbinding techniques and mastered the art of folding, sewing, and decorating their creations. Enjoy this look at the workshop as well as the students' final projects.

We had a great time last week at Lawn Games Night. It was wonderful having so many members of our community come together for an evening of fun and games!

As PCD Summer Camp winds down for the year, we're highlighting our largest program - the Arts & Exploration Camp. Campers work with a variety of materials to create both two- and three-dimensional art projects, often using nature as their inspiration. Check out some of what our campers have done over the past six weeks!

Last month, we shared highlights from the annual Middle School Investigations week. But there was so much going on, we couldn't share it all at once! So today, enjoy these photos from Mr. Crenner's rock climbing class, which not only challenged students physically, but tested their problem solving and strategic thinking skills as well.

With just over a month until the new school year begins, we're sharing more of our favorite photos from last year. For our Lower School students, one of the highlights of every week is Chess. One of seven special classes students participate in each week, Chess not only provides a chance for students to learn how to play the game, but also an opportunity for them to improve the critical thinking skills.

Rainy days and gloomy skies could not stop our campers from having a good time this week! Enjoy these highlights from Week 5 of Summer Camp.
Want to join in on the fun? There's still one more week of camp left. Details here: https://www.providencecountryday.org/life-at-pcd/summer-at-pcd

This week marks the final week of our Lego Engineering Camp for the summer. We've loved watching the incredible creations our campers have built over the past five weeks and can't wait to see what they'll build next summer. A special thanks to Lower School STEAM teacher Ms. Neel for running the program and encouraging our campers to challenge themselves and explore all the engineering possibilities.
