ICC Children's Center will be CLOSED Thursday February 3!

Photos from Illinois Central College Children's Center's post 10/01/2021

Our final day with the second year OTA students. Today the children participated in all kinds of Sensory Processing Activities. One of the favorites was being rolled up like a burrito and having the giant "peanut" roll on you. Others included making sensory bottles, and obstacle course, painting with fruit, sound matching, a sensory "walk" and many other activities. The children and College Students were exhausted when it was all over!

Photos from Illinois Central College Children's Center's post 09/16/2021

Today the Occupational Therapy Assistant Students returned to do intervention activities based on the previous skills assessments they did with the children last time. The children did both fine motor development activities, large motor development activities and cognitive ( problem solving) activities.

This experience challenged both the children and the students. The children tested new skills or practiced skills they had already learned. The students had to problem solve new strategies when an activity didn't go as planned or when a child didn't want to participate. The students also had to create activities with various "found objects" or containers, as in their career they may find budget restrictions which will mean they need to be creative. This is something our teachers do on a daily basis!

Photos from Illinois Central College Children's Center's post 09/03/2021

Today the Occupational Therapy Assistant Students came to practice some of their developmental screening tools. The children participated in activities to see both their gross motor and fine motor development. The program students worked in pairs and each team chose one child from each class to "study" for this practicum experience. They will work for the next week to plan "interventions" to help the children they worked with to practice the skills they may need assistance in developing. On September 16 they will return to work on these skills with the children.

These valuable experiences help the program students practice their skills and learn how to work with young children. We are honored to provide these students with a safe, healthy and professional environment for their practical experience while giving our children unique experiences while in our care.

UPDATE: We are temporarily CLOSED until at least Fall 2021. Sorry for the inconvenience.

09/11/2020

Unfortunately we will not be reopening this fall. We are sorry for the inconveniences this has caused for our families. We are all truly heartbroken that we will not be able to help all of you. Additionally, Spring is not likely to happen for our program either. We are hopeful that this is not the end of our program just an extended hiatus. Until we meet again, please keep our wonderful teachers in your thoughts and prayers, just as we will do for you!

08/28/2020

Just received news we will continue our closure through at least September 30th. 😥

Home

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are all having a safe, fun and healthy Summer. I have a bit of an update for you regarding Fall. What we know as of today is that we (the staff) are being furloughed until at least August 31st. What this means is that for the first two weeks of the Fall Semester we will not be opened. Unfortunately, beyond that date we are uncertain what the answers will be. We have not lost hope of being open at some point this Fall, but want you to know ahead of time. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes. If you need assistance in finding alternative child care placement, you can contact SAL Child Care Connection for their referral services at 309-686-3750 or at salccc.org.

Again we are sorry for the inconvenience and look forward to the day we can be together again!
