Today we had the best day ever in the history of the team. Dunlap swept the Mid Illini Conference Championship, taking first and second place and also the big bass award. The kids worked hard all day and it really paid off. Very proud of these kids.

The boys competed in the IHSA sectional at Banner Marsh today. It was a tough sectional with a lot of very skilled and successful teams in the field. The day was mercifully rain free and pleasant, if a bit windy at times. Fishing was very tough and the bass were not aggressive, but all of the boys showed great focus and managed to eke out some fish as the day went on. It takes a lot of mental toughness to compete for seven hours when the fish aren't biting, so I am very proud of them for their determination. Both boats we entered weighed four fish, one shy of a limit. Boat number one, Dawson and Mason, finished in fifth place with 7.55 pounds, just point three pounds away from the third place boat, which was the last state qualifying placement. Boat number two, Chase and Colin, placed eighth with 6.25 pounds.

Both Dunlap boats weighed four fish in today’s sectional. We finished 5th and maybe 6th Neither boat advanced. The kids worked hard to the end. Pictures when I get home.
