School is around the corner, but for many WA faculty members, the summer has been busy with teaching summer school and professional development. Math and science teacher Mrs. Dean took a course this summer at the AP Summer Institute for computer science principles. The Institute is associated with the National College Board.

Mrs. Dean’s studies included learning how to apply computer science to solve problems by creating algorithms and programs. She also learned how internet computing systems work and how they impact computer science culture.

The Washington Academy Alumni Association is raffling another beautiful, handmade quilt designed and created by WA alum, Marcia Randall-Segura '74. Raffle proceeds will fund the Alumni Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a college-bound WA senior.

Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5 or 12 for $10.The quilt will be on display with tickets available at the WA tent during the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival on Saturday, August 15, or contact a member of the Washington Academy Alumni Association .
