The story of this entity is the shared story of Latino-based Greek organizations on the MSU Campus. In the mid-nineties, as CRU (Culturas De Las Razas Unidas) led the productive Chicano-Latino student body, several of the more active men in the community took it upon themselves to begin a group founded on the ideals of Chicano-Latino male leadership and unity. The “Latino Mens Club” was formed as a haven for them to gather. Though a united group, the "LMC" was not recognized as anything more than that—a registered group. So, they sought to make their “club” something more official. They decided that this was a perfect time to implement what was missing at MSU—a Latino-based/multicultural Greek organization. While some decided to try a different option, other men were still not sold and decided to continue searching for the perfect organization to represent them. When push came to shove, only ten men stood ready to face the challenge of being founders for an entity of Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc. With men from many different backgrounds, the journey for our chapter began in the fall of 1997. On April 5th, 1998, the men accepted with honor the title of Alpha Beta Colony of Omega Delta Phi Fraternity Inc. and the founders received their letters as brothers of what is now, the Alpha Beta Chapter. Since then, we have accomplished much. We have produced graduates, teachers, steppers and community activists. All following lines/classes have been introduced to the MSU Greek community through probates. Alpha Beta can boast about being the first Latino-based/multicultural organization in the nation that participates in bringing their newest brothers to the forefront by way of a probate. We have maintained our strong campus and local community presence as students and as leaders. Most importantly, we have also maintained the strong ties that bind us as brothers. We welcome ANY MAN who isn’t afraid of challenges and who is willing to accept a diverse fraternal experience.
