What’s next for broadband expansion? A lot.

After years of waiting, states and territories will soon begin breaking ground on projects to expand access to high-speed internet under the .

These projects aim to connect 5 million households, community institutions like libraries, and small businesses within the next four years—but that can only happen with sustained partnership between states, broadband providers, and federal agencies throughout the implementation process.

MSU study: How social media shapes tolerance and echo chambers 12/11/2025

Keith Hampton (MSU) and Kelley Cotter (Penn State) recently led a study that looks at how social media can make echo chambers stronger or weaker by studying how rural students who leave for college, and their parents who stay home, use social media and form their attitudes.

Fascinating brown bag lunch talk by Dr. Chris Adami, Department of Microbiology, Genetics, & Immunology, who shared his work on the dynamics of inequality. His work starts from a highly stylized public goods game and develops a series of insights on how inequality emerges from the interaction of rational, self-interested actors. The work also creates foundations for a new understanding of the effects (or failure) of different policy instruments designed to mitigate inequality.
