Whether you're in Canberra or elsewhere in the world, join Dr. Siddharth Chandra's talk to learn more about the political and social upheavals of Indonesia in the 1960s. Dr. Chandra will present his groundbreaking research, "Demographic Anomalies During Indonesia's Years of 'Living Dangerously,'" on June 24, 2026 at The Australian National University.

Drawing on census data and demographic analysis, this talk examines demographic anomalies associated with one of the most turbulent periods in Indonesia's modern history. By identifying patterns in population change, s*x ratios, birth trends, and regional demographic shifts, the research offers new perspectives on the social consequences of the political upheavals of the 1960s and creates opportunities for dialogue across disciplines, including history, political science, sociology, and memory studies.
