Presenting the Veteran of the Game for vs Michigan on January 30th.
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Cody Thorpe served more than a decade in the Coast Guard as one of the service’s elite Rescue Swimmers, bravely risking his life so others may live. During his career, Cody flew more than 1,500 hours and took part in over 200 life-saving missions, including major rescue operations in relief of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Outside of service, he continued that legacy through philanthropy, donating thousands of hours in leadership roles to nonprofit organizations dedicated to strengthening and guiding disadvantaged youth across the Midwest. A proud father and lifelong Spartan, Cody earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in Advertising Management and is currently completing his MBA at the Broad College of Business, where he also serves as President of the MBA Veterans Association.
Thank you, Cody, and GO GREEN!

“The MSU Union, designed as a gathering place for all Spartans, reflects the spirit of camaraderie and unity that binds our community. We honor the bravery of our veterans, both past and present, whose dedication and sacrifice to the cause of freedom continues to inspire generations of Spartans”
This past month, the CVMAS had the honor of assisting in restoring some history to the MSU Union. Originally the MAC Memorial Union, construction began in November 1923 in honor of the MAC students who had perished in service to the country.
Recent changes to the building include a new plaque near the west entrance that calls attention to the original spirit of the building as well as restoring a memorial plaque thad had been donated by the Washington MAC Alumni Association 1925. That older plaque had been moved to the Alumni Chapel, but is now back in the Union on the first floor as of last week. This memorial contains the names of MAC students that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country in the Civil War (15), the Spanish-American War (2), and WWI (48).
A big thank you to the team for their efforts in restoring the rich history of this incredible building and allowing us to help!

WE HAVE NEWS! To better reflect the demographics of our continuously growing military-affiliated student population, we are changing our name! Soon you'll see our new name the MSU Center for Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students.
Our mission stays the same. We exist to provide support to servicemembers, veterans, and military-affiliated students with the resources and support to help them navigate their academic journey.
This evolution ensures that every veteran and military-affiliated student on our campus knows they belong, are supported and have the resources they need to succeed, whether they’re a veteran, wearing the uniform or part of a military family.
