Congratulations to Biosystems Engineering student Gillian Kuehnle on receiving the 1st Place Award in the Undergraduate Poster Competition of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) Annual Meeting.

MSU was well represented this week at the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) Annual Meeting in New Orleans, by students and faculty from the Department of Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering and the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition – co-leading two pre-meeting workshops, participating in technical committees, presenting oral and poster presentations, and participating as finalists in both graduate and undergraduate competitions.

We are excited to head to American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Annual International Meeting. We have over 60 presentations, including technical and poster sessions, panels, a robotics team, and more! Go Green!

Michigan State University (MSU) AgBioResearch selected three projects to fund through the Growing Healthy Together Initiative. Wei Liao, Ph.D., a professor in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, was selected for his project: Integrating Hospital Food Waste Valorization with Urban Agriculture to Advance Community Food Systems and Environmental Health in Detroit. MSU AgBioResearch funds three projects to advance health, food systems and community well-being The projects are funded through the Growing Healthy Together Initiative, an AgBioResearch-led program established in February 2026 to solve complex health challenges through transdisciplinary research.

We are excited to attend the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) International Meeting next month! MSU is bringing over 70 attendees and will be presenting in technical sessions all week.

Emilia Emerson, a BAE Ph.D. student, is partnering with Nepal and Thailand based researchers on a wastewater monitoring project. Her project involves wastewater quality monitoring using miniaturized near-infared (micro-NIR) spectoscopy. Read more about her project here: https://buff.ly/OhDskv8
