Subhasis Giri, assistant professor in BAE, is leading a team that received a $400,000 grant to measure how much PFAS is in the soil, how PFAS moves through fields, and how much PFAS corn and soybeans take up. Giri’s team will also research how well certain farming practices – like planting cereal rye as a cover crop and reducing tillage – help keep PFAS from moving through soil, moving through water, or reaching crops. MSU was well represented this week at the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) Annual Meeting in New Orleans, by students and faculty from the Department of Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering and the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition – co-leading two pre-meeting workshops, participating in technical committees, presenting oral and poster presentations, and participating as finalists in both graduate and undergraduate competitions.
