Jennifer Johnson, Director of Toxic Action Lab in the Department of Community Sustainability, comments on recent announcement from Governor Whitmer's office earmarking $90 million to clean up rivers around Michigan. The Toxic Action Lab has been collaborating with community members in Otsego to sample water sources for a variety of chemicals, including PFAS.

Recent PhD graduate, Rafael Lembi, and colleagues awarded the prestigious Early Career Scientist Award from Energy Research & Social Science for their outstanding research paper titled “Towards Energy Justice and Energy Sovereignty: Participatory CoDesign of off-Grid Systems in the Brazilian Amazon” from the journal of Energy Research & Social Science. Congratulations Rafael and colleagues!

Laura Schmitt Olabisi was one of the U.S. experts participating in a workshop and practical demonstration of sustainable biodigester technology in Nigeria. Researchers, government officials, cassava processors and environmental and energy experts from Nigeria and the United States came together in early August to explore innovative ways of converting cassava wastewater into renewable energy during a three-day transdisciplinary workshop in Ibadan.
