Registration for Spring 2027 is right around the corner - please consider enrolling in the Honors section of SOC 475: Health and Society with Dr. Zhenmei Zhang.
The course explores social class, race, gender and sexuality and how they shape health and well-being. Students will also discuss artificial intelligence and health care as well as policies that can improve population health and reduce health disparities.
This course will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:20 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. in Snyder Hall C204.

We had recently announced that five Social Science affiliated students/alumni were named nominees for the Marshall scholarship, well now we are pleased to announce that four of those same five students are also nominees for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship!

The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship program, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. Thirty-two U.S. Rhodes Scholarships are awarded annually.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Today we celebrate Teresa Rivera, Dual Doctoral Major Student in CLS and Sociology.

Her research interests include understanding the lived experiences of Latino immigrants with a special interest in the: individual and collective conceptualizations of trauma, the duality of resilience, and how U.S. mental health interventions can holistically support the needs of the Latino immigrant community.

MSU Sociology graduate Kaylin Casper was among the four College of Social Science Spartans nominated this year for the prestigious Marshal Scholarship.

Casper, a 2026 Honors College alumna with bachelor’s degrees in sociology through the College of Social Science and humanities pre-law through the College of Arts and Letters, as well as an additional major in women’s and gender studies. Casper is from Burbank, California, and attended John Burroughs High School. While at MSU, Casper was a Social Science Scholar.

In 2024, Casper received the national Udall Undergraduate Award for Tribal Policy. She was nominated for the Truman, Rhodes and Marshall scholarships.
