Michigan State University Interior Design Established in 1935, the Interior Design Program is a part of the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University.

The Interior Design program at MSU was established in 1935, and is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). Summary Information on job placement, graduation rates, and retention/attrition are available in our Student Achievement document. Degrees offered are a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design, a Master of Arts in Environmental Design, and a Planning, Design and Construction - Doctor of Philosophy (Environmental Design Concentration).

On Tuesday, September 29th, the Interior Design Student Organization (IDSO) hosted nearly 70 ID students and faculty at the MSU Multicultural Center for their annual Meet & Greet event!

"The whole night was a success and a super fun way for other students to get to know each other and be inspired for the year to come."

The evening included a catered dinner, a presentation by 2024 alumnus and designer at Castell, Hannah Hamel, round-table discussions with students and faculty, and a raffle filled with prizes donated by design companies!

4th year interior design students are kicking off their final year in the program on a project partnering with the Gillespie Group!

Teams of students will work through the programming process, schematics, and design development phases to propose design concepts on a 1,200 square-foot former hospitality space in downtown Lansing.

Students visited the site for the first time on September 14, 2026, to interview Gillespie Group representatives and conduct an interior and exterior site analysis. They have the next 4 weeks to work through their proposals and will complete the project by presenting to Gillespie team members.

We hosted our annual SPDC Speaker Series on September 10, 2026!

Students were joined by faculty, alumni and interested professionals for an in-depth panel discussion with members of the team behind the Hudson's Detroit Development project led by Bedrock Detroit.

The evening investigated how SPDC's four fields - Construction Management, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Urban & Regional Planning - collaborate in the real world during the planning and completion of large scale projects like Hudson's.

Thank you to our six panelists, four of which are alumni of SPDC programs, for sharing your insights from working on this impressive project that is reshaping Detroit!
