Over on Instagram today:
Hi everyone! My name is Jess Miller, and I am a recent graduate from MSU. I am so excited to share a day in the life of a new CNS with you all! A little bit about myself is that I am originally from Michigan, but I currently live in Texas. I have been an RN for 10 years and specifically, GI/Endoscopy for 7 years. I graduated from MSU in May of this year with my DNP and became board certified as a CNS. In June, I became a Program Committee Member for the North Texas Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA). In July, I became a member of the NACNS Mentorship & Professional Development Committee. Prior to graduation, I was presented an opportunity to become the first GI CNS at my hospital. I am currently practicing as a procedural RN while awaiting the completion of my credentialing and clinical privileges, with plans to officially transition into my new role this September. In the interim, alongside my duties as a procedural RN, I am actively undergoing training for my upcoming CNS role.
Today, I will take you through a typical morning as a procedural RN before transitioning into my CNS provider training for the afternoon. The day typically begins in the fast-paced environment of the GI procedural suite. Transitioning to CNS training later in the day, my lens shifts from a highly focused, task-oriented procedure to the entire spectrum of care. Ultimately, I hope this provides you with valuable insight into the unique CNS role and showcases how exceptionally well MSU has prepared us for this next chapter in our careers. Go Green!๐

Kudos to our first "Preceptor of the Month," Ressie Stranaly, PMHNP-BC at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital's Rural Health Clinic!
As told by one of her current students, Ellie Young:
โRessie goes above and beyond as a preceptor, always making time to teach, encourage, and support students despite balancing a busy practice and working towards another degree herself. She is incredibly knowledgeable, genuinely invested in helping future nurse practitioners succeed and her passion for caring for children and adolescents positively impacts not only our community but countless surrounding communities as well. I feel incredibly fortunate to learn from Ressie, the absolute best, and I canโt think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.โ
