What happened at our Summer Rock Band Concert yesterday was BEYOND anything I could have imagined. ❤️🎸
To the students and teachers of New Haven Academy of Performing Arts: what you created on that stage was absolutely incredible, and we could not be more proud of every single one of you.
Two years ago, what started as a little idea has grown into one of the most special parts of what makes NHAOPA who we are today.
And yesterday, you proved something we have been saying all along:
When students step outside of their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and refuse to quit, the possibilities are incredible.
This is exactly why adding a group class to private lessons is so imSummer Smallivate lessons give students the opportunity to grow individually, build their skills, and gain confidence. But when they take those skills and step into a group, something completely different happens.
Magic happens.
Yesterday, we watched students take everything they have been working on in their private lessons and apply it to something bigger than themselves. They learned to listen to one another, trust one another, support one another, and show up for their bandmates.
You didn't just create music.
You created a team.
You created a community.
You created a family.
You stepped up for each other. You made sure no one was left behind. You supported each other when things were hard, and you made the commitment that you would not let your bandmates down.
And that is what makes us so incredibly proud.
We hope you felt even a fraction of the pride we felt watching you yesterday. Because every student who walked onto that stage accomplished something far greater than performing a song.
You stepped outside your comfort zone.
You took a risk.
You trusted the process.
You kept going.
And you discovered what you are capable of.
That is what music education is all about.
And we have to give a HUGE shoutout to Summer Small. 🎸🔥
Summer, in just two years, you have taken a little makeshift rock band and turned it into a full-on Rock Band Department with EIGHT incredible bands filled with rock stars!
Watching what you have built, and watching the confidence, musicianship, teamwork, and community you have created among our students and staff, has been nothing short of amazing.
We are SO proud of you and everything you have accomplished as a Rock Band Director.
And to Mr. Edwin and Miss Liz — you absolutely HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK yesterday. We are so grateful for everything you poured into our students and for the role you played in making this concert so special.
To every student, teacher, and family who helped make yesterday possible:
THANK YOU.
You reminded us why we do what we do.
You reminded us that sometimes the greatest growth happens when we are willing to be uncomfortable, take a chance, and keep going even when something feels hard.
And when we do that together?
That's when the magic happens. ❤️🎶
We couldn't be prouder of our NHAOPA Rock Stars. Keep stepping outside your comfort zones. Keep showing up. Keep supporting each other.
And most importantly…
NEVER QUIT.
Because you have no idea just how incredible the things you can accomplish might be. 🎸❤️@ Haven Academy of Performing Arts
