Today, Governor Lamont signed legislation establishing Connecticut’s Fallen Hero Fund, a meaningful step forward in supporting the families of public safety professionals who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The fund provides a $100,000 non-taxable benefit and extended health coverage for the surviving families of police, fire, and EMS personnel lost in the line of duty.

We stand in support of our fellow first responders and their families. We understand the sacrifices, the courage, and the silent weight carried with each call. The Fallen Hero Fund is more than a gesture,it’s a powerful symbol of the deep respect and lasting gratitude these heroes and their loved ones have earned.

Fun Fact Friday: Meet Dr. Fowler! 🩺

💡Did you know that one of the most common patient positions used in emergency care is named after Dr. Fowler, a pioneer in the field of medicine? 🤔

Dr. George Fowler, an American surgeon in the late 19th century, developed various patient positioning techniques to improve comfort and care. His most famous contributions include the Fowler’s position, which involves the patient sitting up at an angle, typically used to help with breathing, comfort, and ease of medical treatments. This position is a game-changer for patients in respiratory distress and for those recovering from surgery. 🙌

There are variations too:
• Low Fowler’s: A slight elevation, perfect for general comfort.
• High Fowler’s: A more upright position, ideal for patients with respiratory issues like Asthma, COPD or shortness of breath. 🌬️

Thanks to Dr. Fowler, we have these vital techniques to ensure optimal care and comfort in the field. Next time you adjust a patient’s position, remember the legacy of Dr. Fowler and how these small changes can make a big difference! 💪

Fun Fact Friday 🚑

💡Did you know: The term “ambulance” originates from the Latin word ambulare, meaning “to walk or move about.” Initially, it referred to a “moving hospital” that accompanied armies during campaigns. During the Crimean War (1853–1856), the term “ambulance” began to be associated with vehicles used to convey the wounded from the field. This marked a shift from the original meaning of a “field hospital” to a “vehicle for conveying wounded from the field.” By the early 20th century, the term “ambulance” was extended to vehicles used to transport the sick or wounded in civilian life, reflecting the evolution of emergency medical services. 🚑

Fun Fact Friday 🚑

Did You Know? The human heart creates enough pressure to sq**rt blood up to 30 feet! 😲❤️

EMTs know the power of the heart isn’t just emotional—it’s physical too! Every beat pumps life through our bodies, delivering oxygen and nutrients where they’re needed most.

💡 Why It Matters:
Understanding the heart’s function helps EMTs respond quickly during cardiac emergencies, ensuring patients get the care they need.
