Meet Shamus Holcomb, Welding Instructor at Goodwin! 👨‍🏭

After discovering his passion for hands-on work, Shamus completed a 10-month welding program and built a career specializing in high-pressure piping in the nuclear and petrochemical industries.

Now, he's sharing what he's learned along the way, from the importance of communication and technical skills to the value of learning from experienced tradespeople.

To all who participated or volunteered at the 21st Annual Golf Tournament, a huge thank-you from Goodwin University. Your combined efforts raised a record-breaking $245,000 to assist deserving students through scholarships. The day’s highlights included:

⛳ The inaugural Marty Shea Award was presented to Miroslav Grajewski of Zuvic Infrastructures Solutions in recognition of his long-standing service and generosity to Goodwin and its students.
⛳ Current manufacturing student and Navy veteran Matt Lyss and Foundation president Lee Housley ’13, ’15 participated in an on-air interview with WFSB’s Scott Haney, our honorary tournament chair. At the dinner, Matt delivered remarks to the guests that were the hit of the evening!

From the classroom to a career in healthcare, that's what our new partnership with Hartford HealthCare is all about! 🩺💙

As Goodwin University and Hartford HealthCare work together to create more pathways into healthcare careers across Connecticut, we're highlighting the people whose journeys demonstrate what's possible.

Meet Danielle Beebe, a three-time Goodwin graduate who earned her associate degrees in Health Science and Nursing, along with her bachelor's degree in Nursing. Today, she serves as a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

At our recent partnership announcement, we caught up with Danielle for a mini mic interview to hear her advice for incoming healthcare students and learn what inspires her to do what she does.

Her story is one example of the educational and career opportunities this partnership aims to make more accessible to future generations of healthcare professionals. Watch to hear Danielle's story and discover her "why".

This long-term partnership will connect students and working adults with career exploration, hands-on learning, clinical experiences, and educational opportunities in high-demand healthcare fields.

The first initiative begins at the Connecticut River Academy, where students will have opportunities to explore healthcare careers, earn college credit, and develop skills that prepare them for their futures.

And this is just the beginning! As the partnership grows, opportunities will expand across Goodwin University and University of Bridgeport, helping learners at every stage take their next step toward a career in healthcare.

🔥 From blacksmithing to building ships for the U.S. Navy, Ryan Eckles' journey in welding has taken him further than he ever imagined!

We're kicking off our new Then & Now series, highlighting the experiences, lessons, and advice of the students and faculty who make up Goodwin University's welding community.

For Ryan, a passion for working with metal turned into a career spanning fabrication, shipbuilding, and now helping prepare the next generation of welders at Goodwin. His biggest advice? Never stop learning, take pride in your work, and always prioritize safety.

Yesterday, the Goodwin University community came together for Fresh Check Day®, hosted by our Counseling Department. Students connected through interactive activities, conversations, resources, and a little fun along the way, all centered around mental health, self-care, and supporting one another.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, participated, and helped make mental health part of the conversation on campus. 💚

PUBLIC NOTICE OF UPCOMING ACCREDITATION REVIEW VISIT BY THE ACEN

Goodwin University wishes to announce that it will host a site visit for continuing accreditation of its Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and LPN-Bridge nursing programs by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

You are invited to meet with the site visit team and share your comments about the program in person at a meeting scheduled from 4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 in Room 225 of the main Goodwin building at One Riverside Drive, East Hartford, Connecticut.

Written comments are also welcome and should be submitted to the ACEN via email at

Five years of rethinking, redesigning, and renewing what learning can look like. 💙🌱

Goodwin University’s 5th Annual UDL Conference brought together educators, administrators, and learning leaders from across the country, both in person and virtually, for a day of thought-provoking conversations, shared ideas, and meaningful connections.

From engaging sessions throughout the day to an inspiring keynote from Dr. Jennifer Pusateri, this year’s conference challenged us to think differently about how we create more inclusive, flexible, and engaging learning experiences for all.

Thank you to our speakers, presenters, attendees, and the Goodwin University and University of Bridgeport teams who helped make this year’s conference possible.

Five years in, we’re still asking what’s possible, and continuing to transform tomorrow’s learning. 🌱

What happens when a setback becomes the beginning of a new chapter? For Mayor Connor Martin, it meant finding a new path at Goodwin University.

A first-generation college student, Connor initially pursued higher education at another institution before starting over at Goodwin. While working on Goodwin’s grounds crew, he continued his education and eventually earned both his bachelor’s degree in management and his master’s in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) in 2019.

His education and experience prepared him for a career in local government. In 2023, Connor was elected Mayor of East Hartford, becoming the youngest and first person of color to hold the office.

Now, Connor reflects on the people and experiences that shaped his journey— and the role Goodwin played along the way.
