Last night after our Community Picnic, we launched two new sailboats.

At Rocky Hill's Learn to Sail dedication, our community welcomed the newest boats in our fleet with maritime traditions that honor safe passage and new beginnings. A green branch was placed aboard as a symbol of safe returns, the bows were christened with sparkling cider, and student sailors and coaches took the boats out for their maiden voyage.

These boats represent opportunities to learn by doing; to make decisions in real time, trust a teammate, remain patient through a challenge, and grow more confident with every course.

Thank you to our sailing coaches, school leaders, students, donors and community for helping launch this next chapter of learning on Narragansett Bay.

Two boats. A whole new way to learn.

Our two new RS Quest sailboats arrived at Rocky Hill this summer, and we are getting ready to put them to work. This fall, students will step aboard as part of the reimagined Learn to Sail program, learning from the wind, the water, and the boat beneath them.

Sailing asks students to pay attention, to read the wind, to make decisions, to communicate, to adjust when things don’t go as planned, and perhaps most importantly, to work together.

These boats will give our students the chance to try something new, make mistakes, respond to what happens next, and build confidence through experience. They will learn the skills of sailing, but they will also learn a little more about themselves along the way.

Soon, they will take the helm, and the learning will begin!

Some of the most meaningful learning happens when students take the helm.

This fall, Rocky Hill is bringing Learn to Sail back to the Bay with two new RS Quest sailboats, one made possible through the generous support of Lindahl Reed.

For our Middle and Upper School students, the Bay becomes another classroom. They will learn to read the wind, work as a crew, make decisions, adapt to changing conditions, and take responsibility for their boat and for one another.

And our students are ready. Our Upper School Learn to Sail program is already full, with a waitlist.

This is the kind of learning we believe in at Rocky Hill: hands-on, challenging, and rooted in real experience. Learning that asks students to step up, trust themselves, and discover what they are capable of.

We are incredibly grateful to Lindahl Reed for helping make this opportunity possible, and we cannot wait to see where our students take it.

We want to take a moment to celebrate the life and legacy of Edward O. Ekman Jr., a former Chair of our Board of Trustees who passed away recently.

Edward dedicated countless hours of service to Rocky Hill. His steady leadership, vision, and incredible generosity helped shape the school community we all cherish today. His connection to the school was also deeply personal, as the proud father of two Rocky Hill alumni, Anders '79 and Lisa '84.

We are profoundly grateful for the time, talent, and heart Edward invested in Rocky Hill. Please join us in honoring his lasting contributions and sending our warmest thoughts and deepest condolences to the Ekman family.

Did you know that Summer at Rocky Hill offers more than traditional day camps? Our specialty camps give students the opportunity to dive deeper into their interests, build new skills, and learn from experienced instructors in a fun and supportive environment.

One of those opportunities is our Tennis Camp, led by Varsity Tennis Coach Matt Marion and his coaching staff. Whether campers are picking up a racket for the first time or looking to sharpen their game, Top Edge Tennis helps young athletes develop technique, footwork, court awareness, and confidence through expert instruction and match play.

And if these faces look familiar, you're not imagining it! We are thrilled to welcome back Koray K. '25 and Alara K. '27, who are spending part of their summer on campus helping our tennis campers improve their skills and love of the game. It's always special to see Rocky Hill students and alumni giving back!

This past Saturday, alumni and former faculty gathered on Hopelands Lawn for an evening filled with hugs, laughter, stories, and the kind of conversations that pick up right where they left off, whether it had been five years or fifty.

As the sun set over the bay, old friends reconnected, teachers caught up with generations of students, and memories from Rocky Hill days came flooding back. Alumni traveled from near and far to celebrate, including members of the Class of 1986 who came from Virginia, Texas, and Florida for their 40th Reunion. The Class of 2016 also showed up in force to celebrate their 10th Reunion, making for a wonderful evening of connection and celebration.

It was a beautiful reminder that while so much changes after graduation, the friendships, relationships, and sense of belonging built here have a way of lasting a lifetime. Thank you to everyone who returned to campus to celebrate with us. We loved having you back, and we can't wait to welcome you home again.

This week, we gathered as a community for our annual Athletics Awards Ceremony, celebrating the dedication, perseverance, leadership, and accomplishments of our student-athletes throughout the year.

In addition to recognizing our athletes, we also took time to honor a beloved member of the Rocky Hill community, Theresa Conroy, who is retiring after nearly three decades as a Middle School teacher and coach. Through her unwavering commitment to students, both in the classroom and on the field, Theresa has shaped generations of Mariners and left an extraordinary mark on our school.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, and thank you, Theresa, for the countless lives you have impacted over the years. Your legacy will be felt at Rocky Hill for years to come.

Yesterday, we celebrated the installation of a beautiful wooden Rocky Hill crest created and donated by our newly elected Head Prefect, Alara K. '27.

At the beginning of the school year, a full-color version of the crest was rediscovered in the archives. At the recommendation of our Visual Arts Department Chair, Alara was invited to create a new rendition that could bring fresh life to this piece of school history. What began as an artistic challenge became something far greater. Alara taught herself an entirely new medium, dedicating countless hours to designing, carving, painting, and finishing a work that will now live on campus for generations of students, families, and visitors to see.

Yesterday's dedication was a celebration of the arts, of student initiative, and of the creativity and leadership Alara brings to our community each day. We are so proud to see her talent and vision already leaving a lasting mark on Rocky Hill as she prepares to lead the Upper School as Head Prefect next year.
