Sheryl Boyd - Dyslexia Specialist & Tutor

Sheryl Boyd - Dyslexia Specialist & Tutor I am a certified Barton Reading & Spelling tutor working with students of all ages both in person and over the internet.

I am also available for consulting and speaking to groups. I came to understand dyslexia when I was an elementary school principal. I was desperate to find something that would work for our struggling readers. In my search I found out about dyslexia. Sad to say, I had been an educator for 24 years, had a Master’s degree in education and was never taught about dyslexia and how to help students who

had it. Once I started reading about how dyslexia occurs in about 1 in 5 people and what the signs were, I began to understand why we were not able to help our struggling readers. The reading tutor and I started searching for programs that we could use and we came across Susan Barton's websites - www.brightsolutions.us and www.bartonreading.com. Once we watched some of those videos, we knew that was the program for our school. It made a huge difference for our students! Three years later I left the school and started tutoring full time. I have since been certified as a Barton reading tutor working with students from first grade through adult both one-on-one and remotely through the internet using the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Nothing makes me happier than to see student begin to decode words they have not been able to read before. It's even more exciting to see them read a book on their own for the first time. Besides tutoring, I enjoy consulting with parents, teachers, and administrators. Sharing with others about dyslexia, is also something I am happy to do.

✨ It's Star Wars day - so May the 4th be with you!

Like so many directors, George Lucas, is dyslexic!

He uses his Dyslexic Thinking skills of Imagining and Visualising to create incredible worlds, iconic characters and fantastical stories.

Other incredible dyslexics who use the power of their imagination to bring stories to life include Steven Spielberg, Spike Lee - and of course the wonderful Liv Tyler who stars in our new animated short film 'What is dyslexia?'
