1st Hour AP Chemistry with K. Rowland: Glitter Lab - students learn hands-on about intermolecular forces (IMFs) and polarity by observing how blue glitter dye and food coloring interact with water and acetone.

FUN FACT: When an ionic salt (like NaCl) is added to the mixed water-acetone solution, strong ion-dipole interactions pull the water molecules away, causing the acetone and water to separate back into distinct layers.

2nd Hour AP Bio with K. Rowland: Cell Size Lab - students used different sized sweet potato cubes to demonstrate that smaller cells have a higher surface-area-to-volume (SA:V) ratio, which maximizes the efficiency of material transport and diffusion.

Fun Fact: As a cell grows larger, its volume increases much faster than its surface area, causing the SA:V ratio to decrease and slowing down functional diffusion into the center.

CONGRATULATIONS to DAYLEN JACKSON (12th Grade) and ADABELLA ZABLOCKI (10th Grade) who received the INNOVATOR OF THE MONTH AWARD for the month of SEPTEMBER!! 👏👏👏🎉🎉

Teachers nominated students whom they believed exhibited characteristics of an "Innovator" which include, but are not limited to:
*Reflective approach to learning
*Driven to succeed and ability to push through situations with GRIT
*Takes advantage of opportunities presented
*Humble approach
*Ability to extract learning from different situations
*Have solid attendance
*Exhibit qualities of leadership in the classroom

With the nomination, Teachers also included the reason/rationale for each of their selections. Two winners were then selected and received a certificate, a goody bag, and recognition both in the building and on the school's social media site.
