I have a bunch of movie posters that I forgot to give away during our last meeting. Anyone who wants one can stop by Mr. Travis' classroom some time this week. They're first-come first-serve.
ECC International Cinema Club
The ICC is a club devoted to viewing and discussing movies from all over the world. We'll meet after school on Thursdays to expand our cultural horizons.

Tomorrow is the last meeting of the ECC International Cinema Club for the 2014/15 school year.
It has been a great second year for the club. We screened 22 movies from 12 different countries ranging from release years of 1937 to 2012.. Our attendance grew from an average of about 9 last school year to about 14 each meeting. And, we received over $600 in donations from people who understand the importance of learning about culture through cinema which helped to keep the out-of-pocket costs to run the club to a minimum!
For tomorrow's meeting, please remember to bring snacks to share. We should have plenty of pizza for everyone, but aside from that we still need drinks and sides.
We will be watching X-Men (USA, 2000, Bryan Singer). This is the final film in our American Science Fiction and Super Heroes series, and is one of Mr. Travis' favorite movies.

Join us tomorrow for our second-to-last movie of the school year. We're continuing our theme exploring American science fiction and super heroes from the 1970s to the 2010s.
This week, our focus is 1997's "Men in Black," (USA, Barry Sonnenfield) considered by many to be one of the funniest sci-fi movies ever made. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are an unlikely pair of agents of the Men in Black, a secret organization that protects the earth from aliens.

May the 4th be with you!
Tomorrow is a very special day for fans of science fiction movies. It's the official Star Wars Day, a holiday celebrating the most popular science fiction movie series of all time. The International Cinema Club will of course join in the celebration by showing the movie that started it all, Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (USA, 1977, Dir. George Lucas).
By some estimations, Star Wars Ep. IV has been seen by more people than any other movie ever released. While it of course is known for having a large devoted fan following, it also is credited along with Jaws as being one of the movies that started the trend of mainstream blockbuster movies being the backbone of the American movie industry.
04/27/2015
Join us tomorrow as we continue our series American Science Fiction and Super Heroes with "The Avengers" (USA, 2012, Dir. Joss Whedon). With a sequel coming out later this week, there's no better time to catch up on the biggest and highest grossing super hero movie of all time.

The final schedule for the 2014-2015 school year is now available. Feel free to share with you friends!
We hope to see you all tomorrow for the first movie in our series "American Science Fiction and Super Heroes of the 1970s-2010s" - Back to the Future (USA, 1985) Dir. Robert Zemeckis
04/13/2015
In collaboration with the ECC school library and the EC public library, we will today be showing "Louder than a Bomb" (USA, 2010). We will also have information available about the upcoming poetry slam that all students from ECC are invited to participate in.
If you watched this movie in one of your classes, consider coming out to watch it again. It never hurts to see a movie more than once!
Everyone who can spare 15 minutes after school needs to go to the commons area today at 3:10. We are getting our picture taken for the yearbook. Please try to make it if you can, and please let your friends who attend the club know about it as well!

Hopefully everyone had a great break. This is just a reminder that we will be back tomorrow afternoon (April 6th) with the last of our movies in the "Sports on Film" series: Kung Fu Dunk (China, 2008).
Mr. Travis will not be able to provide snacks for tomorrow, so please feel free to bring something to share (perhaps some leftover Easter candy?).
